Building on the success of his last album, Kai Straw is back with his new LP, Gun. After being recapped in Spotify’s Best Fresh Finds and receiving support from the likes of Demi Lovato and K.Flay, Straw looks ready to take on the world, approaching this LP without any fear or hesitation. The 10-track Gun EP is a full body of work that will surprise, delight, and at times, confuse you. Art can be interpreted in many ways and it is without doubt that this man is looking to test and further the boundaries of indie pop music.

“I wanted to make something that embodies aspiration; the ambition, the vulnerability, the arrogance, the isolation, the hope – the want for a partner that sees the road you see.  Ambition can be such a desperate thing; I see a gun in my mind when I think of the word. I wanted to make an album about that. The rattling in your soul when you’re grinding toward what you want from life.  Something that felt like – flicking the cylinder into place, pulling back the hammer and saying, “give me all you got.”

It’s a strange and scary time in the U.S. right now. While social unrest and chaos rage on, I’m sure I’m not the only one turning to music for healing and inspiration. It helps that artists like Kai Straw are making music with positivity being the central theme. “Supernova,” is powerful and moving, utilizing some clever songwriting and a plethora of uplifting electronic elements to lay down a subtle message of perseverance. We’re proud to have this premiere and excited to share his thought process as it pertains to his new single, “This is what he had to say about his newest singleThere was a time in my life when I wanted to kill myself; when every breath I took felt unearned.  But now, years later, I feel the opposite.  And I wanted to capture that feeling in a song – to bottle my sunshine for someone else.  Something with sort of – boundless, positive, hopeful energy.”

Pretty cool new single from Kai Straw and it’s looking like he’s got “The Recipe” for your Monday blues. Have to be honest, I’ve never heard of this guy before but after checking out his Toothpick EP, gotta say that I’m loving his vibe.
