The XX

the-xx

London four piece The XX will release their debut album “XX” on August 17th (on Young Turks Records). The XX is definetely one of the bands to watch in 2009 with their tender and melancholic pop filled with soft sung boy/girl vocals.

This mix for Fact Magazine was mixed by Jamie Smith, who produces as well as plays in the band, and it features CocoRosie, Sticky and Ms Dynamite, Four Tet, Zomby, Burial + plenty of the band’s songs alongside exclusive edits and solo material.

BONUS: A remix that Jamie did of a track called “Space Bass” can be found at Mad Decent + the track “Basic Space” off the upcoming album over at The Fader.

Big Weekend

Berlin for five days left us exhausted but it was great fun. Back to normal routines, well at least until this weekend when London is up.

The mighty UK producer L-Vis 1990 – recent addition to the Mad Decent roster who is most likely to blow up in 2009 – gives us another stellar remix (we posted his remix of Crystal Fighters last week). This time around he turns his attention to US trio Lemonade and their new single “Big Weekend” (drops July 20th on Sunday Best), he hands us fiercely dark remix with a dirty bass and ravey synths.

Hot off their recent North American tour, Portuguese massive Buraka Som Sistema drops new single “IC19″ (named after a gridlockprone stretch of highway in Lisbon, one of the areas next to the highway is called Buraca) on Mad Decent today, it comes backed with remixes from Toadally Krossed Out, DJ Sega and Toy Selectah. Not included in the remix EP package is this mindblowing remix from the essential London based producer/dj L-Vis 1990 who treats us to a dark and funky kwaito-like monster.

Hold The Line

Major Lazer with the first leak from their much anticipated upcoming (June 16th) debut album “Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do”. This tune is straight up muscles! (Via Mad Decent)

“The world is likely not ready for the arrival of Diplo & Switch’s musical machination Major Lazer; a renegade commando with a lazer arm and a rocket-powered skateboard who fights legions of Vampires, Zombies, Pimps, Mummies and other unsavory forces of evil. The first album in years of original material by these two highly regarded producers, the music is Diplo & Switch’s interpretation and homage to the songs and sounds they have discovered through the years.. The identity of Major Lazer was created by the two producers as a conduit to express their affinity for Jamaican music. The album references dancehall, ska, reggae, dub, calypso, and soca music recontextualized via Diplo and Switch’s club friendly background.”

thunderous olympian

Think 2Wice Records with yet another fine release. Thunderous Olympian are ready to bring us the “Racer EP”.

“This remix of “Racer” is by none other than DJ B-Stee of the Brick Bandits crew who just saw his legendary “Robot Club Rock” remix released on Ol’ Head/Mad Decent. B-Stee gives a classic club remix to the track with chopped horns, percolating synth pops and booming 808 hits.”
