The last time we covered UK’s Mao Ra Sun it was about their lo-fi neo-soul collaboration “I Won’t Take You Back” featuring vocals from LuLu James. Today sees Mao Ra Sun heading in a different direction with their first true instrumental release of the year. “Troubadours” takes on a darker tone, with a myriad of layered synths coming in to create a truly unique auditory journey.

“Troubadours is our first instrumental release of 2015, we decided to go deep and soulful on this one but it’s no less engaging. It nods subtly to hardcore and acid with the shoegaze undercurrent we love to have in our music, hope you enjoy it.”

“I Won’t Take You Back” is an evocative soulful R&B meets electro tune from Mao Ra Sun and Lulu James. If you’re not familiar with Mao Ra Sun, they’re a production duo from the UK with a reputation for making forward club-derived music.

“The instrumental of ‘I Won¹t Take You Back¹ was our ode to Control era Janet Jackson slow jams,” Mao Ra Sun says. “As soon as Lulu laid her vocals down it took it to a whole new level.”
