Mixin’ It Up: Botanika

Sorry that this weeks Mixin’ It Up came a little bit late but we had so much stuff for you yesterday that we saved it for today. Let’s go to Tel Aviv:

“We’re Botanika – a DJ crew based in Tel Aviv, comprised of Nadav Ravid (aka NDV), Amir Egozy, and our disco-licious designer Lady Moon. We spin everything from soul, funk, reggae & hip hop up to a variety of dancefloor flavors, like house/techno/b-more/dubstep/breakbeats and whatnot. This mix is just a glimpse into our larger selection, quite similar to our Botanika FM radioshows, while on a real dancefloor we’d probably let the music breath a bit more, but as we had certain stuff we really wanted y’all to hear, we just had to cramp it all in.

We mostly do parties around town either by our own or alongside our local friends (Kalbata, Onili, Soulico, TABAC, Kids Up Late, East of Eden & the Supplement Facts posses among others) – so sometimes you’ll hear us playing pure dubstep while at others on a hip hop/dancehall/bass vibe or on a soul/disco/house tip & so on. Over the past few years we’ve DJ’ed alongside international talents like Diplo, Sinden, Stereotyp, Seiji, Ghislain Poirier, Orgasmic, Roots Manuva, Laurent Garnier, Trickski, Al-Haca, Jahcoozi, Benga, DK, Juan Mclean and many others.

Anyway, we like mixin’ it all up, which we get to on our own parties and on our weekly Botanika FM radioshow on 106FM. Each of us does also another weekly show of his own – Nadav presents a 2 hour music show on GLGLZ, Israel’s biggest radio station, and Egozy does a weekly podcast for Walla!, the biggest web Portal in Israel. Our Myspace usually has links to most of them, so if you dig this you’re welcome to visit us for more.

Be sure to check NDV’s Shirbul project – 13 remixes to all Israeli artists done over the past 5 years, some sung in English and some in Hebrew and on a wide range of musical styles – which can be downloaded for free as a zip file including all the separate tracks (in 320kbs mp3′s) + artwork, and/or as a 50 minutes continous DJ-mix done by Egozy – over here.”

Download: Botanika Discobelle Oct Mix

Outkast – The Art of Storytelling

We thought this will be a fitting title to start off the mix with. We love Outkast in general, Andre 3000 had a magnificent year with lots of great guest spots, and this one has been very big for us.

John Miles – Stranger in the City (Pilooski edit)

Another big favorite for us – we dig a lot of what Pilooski has been doing, and this one has become sort of an anthem at our monthly loft parties.

Polar Pair ft Shawn Lee – Ever Happy (remix)

Polar Pair is Nadav’s collaboration with Malkiel Grossman – one of the first DJs to play electronic dance music here in Israel, and also a close friend, a mentor and  a source of inspiration for us. Botanika actually came together after Malkiel’s Sofabeat club closed down early 2004. On this track they host the multi-talented Shawn Lee, not a proper dancefloor tune, but we still wanted you to hear it.

Flying Lotus – Melt!

Like many around the world we’ve been captured by Fly Lo’s sci-fi take on hip hop and beat-making, and this one here is just one of the finest and simplest grooves he’s done – drop it on a buzzin’ dancefloor and see everyone go pre-historic!

El Guincho – Kalise (Frikstailers remix)

Stepping it up a bit with this wacky acid-cumbia remix of El Guincho, this is a hot new tune for us and has gotten us all hyped up, as both of us are very fond of good dancefloor tracks on slower-than-usual tempos that mix different elements into something fresh.

Jellybass – Wobble

This one has a bit of a nu-jazz flavor, alongside a wobbling bassline straight outta the dubstep arena – another example of hybrid sounds we enjoy spicing our sets with.

Cool Kids – What It Is

One of the more up-tempo and old-school flavored tracks by the Cool Kids, which we’ve been generally into over the past year.

Al Haca ft RQM, Coppa & Fefe – Banana Split (Polar Pair remix)

Polar Pair remixing our dear friends from Al-Haca Soundsystem, the sort of futuristic bass heavy dancehall we love so much.

Rustie – Pendulum

Another young producer which has become very big over the past year and so, this was the first track of his that really caught our ears and has proved itself each time we played it out.

Sugababes – Too Lost in You (Various Production remix)

Other than endlessly searching for rare stuff we also enjoy throwing in something with a bit of a pop flavor once in a while. Various Production are usually very interesting producers, thou not all of their output is really suitable for dancing.

Onili – Games (NDV ‘ave a new game remix) (http://remix.nadavravid.com/)

Onili is a close collaborator of ours and one of the more talented singers and performers we have the pleasure to work with. She’s done a song with Polar Pair, and this is one of two remixes NDV has done for her, which appeared on the first single from her forthcoming album. She also guests on the mic in some of our club gigs, and she and Egozy do monthly DJ/MC sessions at the Shesek lounge here in Tel Aviv.

Benga – Someone 20

Def one of the more talented dubstep producers around, this almost 4X4 track appears on any of the non-vinyl versions of his Afro Warrior album, samples the famous Night Rider theme, and kicks ass. Anyway, we thought it works as a nice interval between the two “sections” of this mix.

Kranz Trio – Din Da Da Da (NDV RMX/BLND)

NDV again – here with a bootleg blend/remix he’s done with a couple of cheeky  tracks  from the 80′s, somewhere between broken-beat & b-more,

Lil Mama – No Music (Starkey remix)

One of Starkey’s friendlier and bumpier remixes to date, quite different from the darker dubstep he’s been putting out lately, this one has a great bump and goes great in a variety of different contexts, anywhere from hip hop to electro..

The Go! Team – Doing it Right (Yo Majesty remix)

One of the remixes to Yo Majesty’s Kryptonite Pussy was among our biggest tunes of summer ’07, but this remix for the Go! Team (always picking great remixers, btw) is totally far out, blending together so many different sounds and sounding like nothing else.

Martyn – All I Have is Memories

We wish more dubstep tracks will have in them as much innovation and musicianship as Martyn, sounding almost deep-house with those keys and the general vibe. Also worked quite good here as a bridge between the super-hectic Yo Majesty remix (so many drums going on there!) and the following…

Polar Pair ft Atlantis – This is What Happens (Mark Flash remix)

The original Polar Pair track that hosts Atlantis from Underground Resistance is more of a cut-up punk-funk affair, which Mark Flash from the UR camp has remixed into a totally classic Detroit sounding piece of music. Needless to say we’re so excited about this and eagerly waiting its proper vinyl release – more news regarding that early 2009.

Egg Foo Young – Up It

Proper club track from the so talented Egg Foo Young (aka Michna), which we’ve been following over the past few years and just recently released a great debut album on Ghoslty.

Sabbo – Babylon a Kill Dem

Sabbo is a quarter of Soulico crew – good friends of ours, which focus more on hip hop and dancehall but also share our general open-mind approach to music and DJing. Here’s a small sample of the tracks Sabbo has been doing over the past year and so – all very bass heavy dancefloor material, which hopefully will also be released early 2009.

Stush – Dollar Sign

This one has been around for a few years now, but thanks to the Heatwave crew and Soul Jazz records it got a good vinyl pressing earlier this year as part of their “An England Story” compilation – which is a treat all over. Anyway, Lady Stush is totally irresisteble, and Egozy has been dropping this track endlessly all year long.

Sunship ft Warrior Queen – Quits (Kalbata remix)

Our homie Kalbata did a remix to what was supposed to be the immediate follow-up to Sunship’s biggest smash over the past years, “Almighty Father”, but as Casual records sort of disappeared the whole release got lost in between until Sunship released the original just last week. Be on the lookout as this version should hit the blogsphere sometime soon.

Tawiah – Every Step (Zed Bias dub-rub)

Sooo much soul in a dubstep-ish track is quite untypical for that genre at the moment, and this remix by Mr Zed Bias is totally fabulous and has been sort of an end-of-the-night torch song for us, bringing this mix to it’s end.

Jackie Mittoo – Wall Street

But then we just thought we’d sneak this marvelous Jackie Mittoo piece – one of the most important reggae musicians ever, a perfect groove&melody for those moments before the club opens or after everyone’s gone… also quite fitting with all this Wall Street/economy crisis the whole world is freakin’ out about…

Peace&out

The Botanikats”

Mixin’ It Up: Alex Metric

This should have been posted yesterday but, as you might know, I was trapped on a train. So now you get a Mixin’ It Up on a Saturday instead.

This time we have invited Alex Metric to do the mixin’. He will be releasing his EP “Deadly On A Mission” on Marine Parade on October, 20th so it is just natural that he has included some tracks from that release on this mix.

TRACKLIST:

Phoenix – Schools rule

Always wanted to start a mix with this. One of my favourite bands ever. This has inspired me to go deeper and do a proper re-edit for my dj sets.

Golden Boy – I Cant Stop

Had never heard of Golden boy till a few weks ago. stumbled across them on beatport and swiftly bought all the tunes i could find. Really love their stuff! Golden Bullets is another track of theirs worth hunting for.

Cassius – Feeling For You (LRD Mix)

2 of my favourite and most influential artists head to head. Jaques can do no wrong in my eyes. and cassius are leg ends, so its a match made in heaven. Nearly 10 years old now but still sounds fucking
fresh to me.

Thieves Like Us – Drugs In My Body (Just A Band Mix)

LOVE Just a band at the moment. Their Alex Gopher mix has to be one of my most played tracks of the year. This is heading that way. its got some balls, but retains the funk and has a wicked filter disco vibe to it.

DJ DLT – Paramount (Rogerseventytwo Mix)

Another of my favourite producers right now. Roger has that french sound but with his own twist on it. this is another of my most played tunes over the last year. never fails. Top guy too.

Alex Metric – Caller

B side to my new ep. i’d like to think its a record that twists and turns and throws a few surprises in there.

Treasure Fingers – Cross The Dancefloor (Alex Metric Mix)

Pleasure to do a remix for a label like Fools Gold. I’m really pleased with how it turned out. It was the first tune i used my brand new vocoder on!

Digitalism – Home (Proxy Mix)

It’s taken me a while to warm to Proxys stuff. It didnt grab me initially. But this and the Moby remix changed my mind. Simple tunes that sound huge out.

Bloc Party – Mercury (Herve Mix) Alex Metric re-edit

Herve’s stuff i can generally take or leave, doesnt really fit with what i play. Though when he goes a bit rocky i’m all over it. His Dune mix from early this year was excellent too. I like the distinct sections to this and the raviness. i just got rid of the half time bits and tideied it up a bit for my edit.

Alex Metric – Deadly On A Mission (Alex Metric Mix)

My remix of my vocal version of deadly on a mission. Confused? dont be! the full vocla version isnt so club friendly, and theres has already been the dub out so i needed a mix that sat in the middle. it has the vocals but will kill it on the dancefloor (I hope) :)”

mia_moretti_red

Mixin’ It Up: Mia Moretti

We caught up with Miss Moretti in NYC where we got a chance to tag team it with her on the 1′s and 2′s, but now she’s back in LA where she has been a club fixture holding it down alongside pals DJ AM, Steve Aoki and Cut Chemist. We also got her brand new official remix of the Katy Perry track “Hot N Cold” to share. It’s a B-more tasting club banger with some classic old school samples that rocks any dancefloor. Mia, take it away!

“If I had to draw a picture of this mixtape it would be a 1989 white Volkswagon Cabriolet with four sixteen year old girls squeezed in the back, Ken in the driver seat and me riding shotgun. It’s my ode to summer. I’ve never really played a pop set, but since i’ve been out on tour with my girl Katy Perry, I finally had to go there. I made this mix to see how many layers of cheese I could pile on and I think I got it pretty thick. Thick n tasty. Enjoy!”

Mia Moretti Mean Mix Tape (zShare)

BONUS: Hot N Cold (Mia Moretti Remix) (zShare)

And the tracklist:

LMFAO – I Am NOT A Whore

These guys are fucking rad, those dirty sexy hard electro beats with even dirtier nasty ass lyrics, ugh, so good. I liked this beat so much I used it on my Biggie remix. They are actually hip hop guys, they just put a new twist to their act with some mad catchy homemade electro sounds, they like to call it “New 80s” I just call it “UGHHHH!”

Good As Gold For Top Billin – Shake My Ass

Holdin it down in Helsinki!!! Top Billin released a limited edition 12″ EP, Tales From Top Billin, and Shake Your Ass is just one of the 6 jems on it. This particular track was produced by the fine fellow Finnish folks know as Good As Gold. This shit is my weapon of mass destruction.

Trina – Pull Over

I love me some Trina. Pull Over was on her first album that came out in 2000 and it’s the dirty-ass freak-rap strawberry jamz.

The Marvelettes – Mr. Postman (DJ Technics BMore Remix)

Mr. Aoki Jr. has just about killed this one for me, but this is a classic BMore flip by bodymore’s own, and it works perfect so pfffffff, oh well.

Shirelles – My Boyfriend’s Back (DJ Fashen Edit)

I’ve played Banana Split with Fashen twice now and he can hold it down on the 1s and 2s like nobodies biz. All his edits I’ve heard are on point. He doesn’t funk with the OG too much, it’s a solid oldies rework w/ some drums that go bum bum bum.

Nelly Furtado – Maneater

OH no I didn’t. Gaspard told me this was the “Girl Only Mix Tape” and I think it’s because of this cheese pizza I delivered, but I decided it’s been off the charts long enough to start playing it again, even though I’ve never played it before and it is just about as “girls only” as it gets.

Salt and Peppa – Push It

The first ultimate nasty song. The end.

Calvin Harris – Acceptable In The 80′s

The first official single off Calvin’s record, which is basically an electroclash tribute to a decade of Raybans, Rubics Cubes and sneakers, wooowzers! No wonder it’s a hit. Not quite a “sample” of You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) but close enough, the song (like the whole album) is a bouncy infectious ode to the decadent decade when everything was acceptable! Damn Calvy, it still is.. I got hugs!

P.S. Calvin himself was born in 1984, hugs all round, drugs all round!

Dead or Alive – You Spin Me Round

1980s one hit wonderful. Nothing more nothing less. If it works for Calvin, it works for me.

CSS – Let’s Make Love (Calvin Harris Remix)

Calvin Harris makes this song bearable again by speeding it up, giving it a thick layer of dirty synth beats and adding those little special Calvy touches, most notably the cowbell.

Chromeo – Bonafied Lovin (Yuksek remix)

I thought I was sold on the LA Riots remix of this Chromeo fav until I heard this version by Yuksek. Whhhaaat. I was sleepin! Yuksek is comin up on the French electro tip, running a one man show a la our man Calvin and def holding it down with the remixes too. It’s just so smooth and sexy and dare I say.. techno! Peep the Lolipop remix where he gets his funky techno fresh on.

Bonde Do Role – Solta O Frango (Mia Moretti remix)

I love this band, I get a little bit of a Justice vibe from them, but I wanted to take Solta O Frango and just dirty it up a tad. It translates to “Free The Chickens” which made me think it’s the Brazilian version of “Who Let The Dogs Out” with that in mind I just added some reverb, delay, sirens… to me it’s a party jam, backyard style mom’s out of town lets have a kegger rage.. Free the Chickens, Woof Woof!!!! It also could be a political statement, but I’m taking the low road.

Baltimore Club – I Just Wanna Fuck (BMore Edit)

After all those beers there is only one thing to do. FUCK. This track is less of a song and more of a bad ass acappella with a funky conga line drum beat that creeps in and out like a bad ex, “boy you in luck.”

Britney Spears – Gimmie More (DJ Barletta Remix)

If Brit’s original version of this track rated R then DJ Barletta picks it up and puts it behind the curtain in the XXX corner. It’s faster, harder and dirtier. I love me some Britney, this new album has killer electro beats and naughty lyrics, but they are a little slow and thin, problem solved.

Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl (Dr. Luke & Benny Blanco Remix)

Im sitting on KP’s tour bus so I can’t hate on the pop hit of the summer.. #1 for 6 weeks… can’t walk into a store, elevator, mall or club without hearing it, but Dr. Luke who produced the summer hit also released a remix he did with Mr. Blanco and it’s a little more our steaz. It’s basically a straight up electro dance remix, the boys sample about every electronic programmed beat you could ask for so just pick the part you want, I call it a DJ salad bar.

Katy Perry vs. Dr. Hollywood – She Kissed My Girl

Dr. Luke may make millions producing hit singles, but there’s a new doc in town. My boys Dr. Hollywood impressed both Katy and me with their super sultry “cover” of I Kissed A Girl. Simon Rex (aka Dirt Nasty) raps on the last verse of the track, but he didn’t get the memo, “I like electro, I like retro, I like ghetto, house and techno,” so he didn’t make the cut.

Kid CuDi – Day ‘N’ Nite (Crookers Remix)

Everyone is up on Kid CuDi tip, but it was Crookers who put the newbie rapper on the map in the electro club scene. I gotta give CuDi mad props though on the lil mixtape I just peeped (thanks discobelle); I am feeling that 50 Ways To Make A Record track, the whole thing came just in time for my 90s obsession, it’s giving me Pharcyde meets Cut Chemist. Uh, na nana na.

Notorious B.I.G. – Hypnotize (Mia Moretti remix)

90′s what!!! I wanted to make this slammin, so I just sped it up and laid a hard beat under the acappella. I love that crazy synth sound I found too, it sounds like robots makin babies. Speaking of babies, my favorite part in the song is the “ménage a trois’ I looped it twice and slowed it way way down on the second one. Those sexy little floppy noises (a la Freaks of the Industry) were actually a mistake, they were the tail end of a beat I chopped in half and forgot to delete, but they worked so perfect for the freak nasty nast vibe I was going for that I just moved em over a little and dropped the other beat.

Green Velvet – Shake & Pop

The electro anthem.

MSTRKRFT – She’s Good For Business

My fav track off their EP, The Looks, this tune wins my heart with that crispy clap under the fun vocal hook. The boys left plenty of room in this tune for us to play, it’s clean enough to even layer the vocals, which usually makes me cringe. This song is like a chameleon, it’s strong enough to be the lead, but it doesn’t have too big of an ego to take the back seat and just meld into another track.

LMFAO – Lil’ Hipster Girl

LMFAO shows a little more of their hip hop side in this track, and it’s a song about me, so what’s not to love.

Michael Jackson – Thriller

At my house it’s Halloween every night.

BOOM!

Mixin’ It Up: Smalltown DJs

We have been wanting a mix from Smalltown DJs since we started our Mixin’ It Up series and it’s finally happened. Please enjoy!

“What’s up – we’re called Smalltown DJs – and we are Canadians from Canada. We’re really glad that we finally had time to put together a mix for Discobelle, because they do such a great job. We thought that we would be true to the site name and give the mix a disco feel. We are going tour all over the place this fall so come party with us if we are in your town. So, we hope you enjoy the mix, now let’s go:

1) Squeeze Me – Kraak n Smaak

This is from Jalapeno Records – our homies from Wicked Lester put a record out a few years ago on that label. Vinyl Ritchie from Wicked Lester is one of the best djs out there.

2) Transatlantic Creep (Smalltown Blend) – Jellybass vs. Radiohead

I hope to see Radiohead on the In Rainbows tour. They are the best band.

3) Electric Feel (Aeroplane Remix) – MGMT

New York seems to have all the best new bands right now. This is a great mix from Aeroplane.

4) You Belong – Hercules & Love Affair

See above. Also how great is DFA Records? I saw LCD Soundsystem play live last year and they destroyed.

5) I Loved Every Minute of it (Smalltown dance edit) – Gayle Adams

Gayle Adams was a DC disco singer – apparently she did stand-up comedy for a bit as well.

6) Figured Me Out – Jamie Lidell

We played with Jamie Lidell at our club and his live show is totally engaging. He’s like a one man electronic band.

7) You Can’t Hide – David Joseph

Larry Levan did a great mix of this tune as well. The keys are so tough.

8) Eurodans – Todd Terje

This is different than the eurodance sound being pushed by bands like Eiffel 65 and Whigfield. Todd Terje is awesome.

9) Do it at the Disco – Gary’s Gang

We played this in Mexico and the latin rhythms sounded really great. Is he singing falsetto?

10) Did it at the Disco – DJ Sneak

Sneak is a legend. Great DJ. I saw him play at Industry in Toronto in the 90s. I think Daft Punk played on the same night.

11) Back in the Day feat. Mike Dixon – Dirty Sole

Mike Dixon has been pushing the jazz house sound forever – this is a really cool hip-house sounding jam. The raps are fun.

12) Ladies – Sammy Bananas

Max and Sam from Certified Bananas and I went swimming in the river near my old house. They are like us but from America, and smarter.

13) Lovetoy – Plant Life

Plant Life, they are from LA I think. This joint is so rough. The horns kill me.

14) Get Up (Grandtheft Remix) – Afrika Bambaataa

We brought Bam to Calgary in 1999 – it was amazing. He played a bunch of Miami Bass an Bmore shit – so smooth and banging at the same time. He is a huge influence on Smalltown.

15) Prince Ida (Rock it Scientists Mix) – Prince vs. Ida Corr

This is a mash-up. A really good mash-up.

16) Get Down (DJ Ayres mix) – Paul Johnson

Ayres is totally hilarious and a great DJ. The Rub dudes are all top notch in general.

17) Walk the Disnosaur (Paul Devro Mix) – Was Not Was

Was not Was also put out a really good version of “Papa Was a Rolling Stone”. This one reminds me of growing up, I loved this tune when i was a kid.

18) Roll it feat. Pase Rock (DJ Class Remix) – XXXChange & Scottie B

This is like an allstar team.

19) African Chant (Pretty Titty Edit) – Scottie B

Scottie B is a big influence on us – and a great dj, and a great guy.

20) Mumba – Danny Marquez, Tuccillo

I dont know anything about this record except that it sounds great.

21) Wouldn’t it be Nice – Smalltown Romeo

We made this tune with Wax Romeo. He is our friend and partner and a very special little guy. Seriously if you dont know Wax Romeo you should make a point of checking his stuff out – he’s super talented.

22) Just Another Groove – Mighty Dub Katz

Fatboy Slim made this I think. Chune is quite evvy. He was is the Housemartins in the 80s – they have a fun pub-rock song called “Happy Hour”.

23) Big Love – Pete Heller

This song is like the happiest feeling in song format.”

8) Kelevra & Bryan Cox – Leanin & Swervin (Bryan Cox Remix)
A bit different track from Bryan with more breakbeat influences, this one is already available and Bryan fans should already know it, others needs to dig out his last tracks but you’ll have the opportunity later in this mixtape!

9) Congorock – Runark (His Majesty Andre Growl Remix)
Once we’ve heard this one we said something like: “WOW, it can’t be!”, like the original but we have to admit that this one is one of the best track of 2k8. This one remembers M. Pimp old Acid House lovin. This one is already played everywhere and is still a kind of promo, but those who don’t know it yet really need to have a listen at His Majesty Killer track.

10) Bryan Cox – Let’s Go To Work ( Mustard Pimp Remix)
Well that one is special, that was the first real remix we’ve made, this one is unreleased unfortunately because we did it too late but you can find the link to download it at the end of this mixtape! Enjoy!

This one is already a classic from Belgium, already playlisted by the bests like Crookers, this one should comes out during September/October and it will rock!

New track from Congorock, fans should already had a listen on it on his MySpace and again a great track from him!

14) Das Pop – Underground (DJ edjotronic & Busy P Remix)
This one is bangin, we actually don’t play Djedjo and Pedro tracks often but we have to admit that this one rocks, a bit minimalist but very efficient on dancefloors.

15) Math Head – Get Hype
Simply the best track of summer 2k8, this one is great to play with Proxy – Raven but unfortunately hadn’t succeed to get the real version in time but for those who don’t know it yet, they should run to listen at it! GET HYPE!

16) Zigmund Slezak – Push It (Bryan Cox Remix)
Big track from Bryan, darker than others but really big, now on your enter the last 30 mins of the mixtape and it will be MASSIVE!

17) Alphabeat – Boyfriend (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)
A good track from the Betroots again? Yeah, no surprises even if we don’t like so far all their tracks this one is absolutely one of their best tracks. Massive, Horror, Sick, Dirty are some adjectives that fit this track and when we heard that one we thought that this track could be a good featuring with Insane Clown Posse.

18) Mustard Pimp – Oh la la Satan
Finally our first original track of the mixtape! We especially love this one and we get some support for it from people and artists, thanks again to them. We worked a lot on this one to make it massive, especially in the second part of the track. Release date aired to 7th October on Crux Records with remixes from Bryan Cox, Stereoheroes, Da Carrot, Jay Robinson and more! SATAN

19) Santogold – Creator (Chewy Chocolate Cookies Remix)
One of the new dirty tracks from CCC and this one is really really dirt, those leads are brain cracking but we love it!

20) Mustard Pimp – Wha, Han, Yeah, Shit
Well, Mustard Pimp again! A massive one with a 2d degree name that translates lyrics of this track, we actually hesitate to rename it “Motocross” due to the Motocross noises later in this track! It will come out on Idiot House soon with 3 other tracks from us not playlisted there (“Curry”, “Raging Blood” and “We’re Are Too Slow”)

21) Mustard Pimp – Zombie Revenge
Finally, our new track exclusively for Discobelle! It should be online now on our MySpace, this one is really massive with a big big Subtractor bassline, lovers of noises should love it. Learn more about this one on our MySpace!

22) Stereoheroes – Washout (Mustard No Limit Pimp Remix)
As fans of the original “Washout” we needed to do this remix, maybe you already checked it on our MySpace and it will theoretically wil be out on Crux Records during October.

23) Rochelle – Fer De Lance (Chewy Chocolate Cookies Remix)
SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK but LOVE IT !

24) The Bloody Beetroots – Detroit
A classic? Yeah, already heard everywhere? Yeah yeah but what track is better than this one? This is totally our favorite one, the kind of track you listen every morning to tell yourself that you need to make a better track than this one. This one is violent, very well constructed with a ending break and finish totally sick, yeah you understand it this is really the best electro house track ever! Respect

25) Lil Wayne – Lollipop (Bulimix)
Hypnotic track from our friend Bulimiatron, Fast & Ghetto and perfect to close and calm down this mixtape after 30 mins of massive tracks. We hope you enjoyed the trip. Stay connected with us!
Bests from Paris!”

Mixin’ It Up: James Yuill

This week we go to London for our Mixin It Up. Take it away James:

“Hi everyone. I’m James Yuill. I guess you could describe my music as Folktronica with a heavy house twist. My album “Turning Down Water For Air” comes out on Moshi Moshi on October 13th. I did a remix of Roots Manuva’s Buff Nuff for the Discobelle Comp and won it so they asked me for a mix. I gladly accepted. And here it is.

Now i should point out, I’m no DJ. In fact this is the first proper mix I’ve done. So I have no idea whether these tracks will blow up the dancefloor etc. All I know is that I love them. Some may be old. Some may be badly mixed, but it’s the best I could do.

Kish Mauve – Lose Control (Fred Falke Remix)
I found this remix on a blog recently. I pretty much love everything Fred Falke does, for that matter all the things Alan Braxe does too. Their production is leaps ahead of everyone else.
So here’s a great Alan Braxe remix of Kelis. Got this one off a mate ages ago. Genius. I’m sure if I was to ever be a DJ and play this one out (as they say) it would literally blow up the dancefloor with things flying off the hook all over the place. I particularly like the lead synth that comes in just as the rap finishes and the chorus begins. it’s little touches like that that make Alan Braxe so good.

Kelis – Bossy (Alan Braxe Remix)

Rio – Race Is Set (Part II)
When i was working sourcing music for ads I found this track on someone’s Myspace and followed it all the way to Beautycase Records in Germany. Absolutely brilliant. with synths that remind me of Prototype by Rex The Dog, which unfortunately was too slow to mix in here but worth checking out.

Tiga – (Far From) Home (Digitalism Remix)
Another track I found through my old job. Got the EP with about 6 mixes on. The DFA remix is pure joy. A few weeks later I went to see Jackson And His Computer Band at Fabric and Digitalism were playing just after him. It was mental. I’d never heard so many bit crunched basslines side chained to hell.

Surkin – Radio Fireworks
I love the simplicity of Surkin’s work. Just raw dance tapped straight from the glands of Daft Punk.

Kavinsky – Testarossa (SebastiAn Remix)
The Ferrari man remixed by the guy that brought us “Ross Ross Ross”. I know it’s old, but how could i not include it. Ross x3 pretty much changed my life. that’s the whole reason I got into Ed Banger Records. And the whole reason I produce my tracks the way I do. That and Jackson and His Computer Band.

Felix Cartal – L’Amour
Another track I found on a blog recently. Loved the bassline immediately. There’s something of a Boys Noize to it. I can imagine all kinds of shit happening on the dance floor if this one’s dropped firmly in the club.

Teenage Bad Girl – Vacuum
My flatmate played me “Fuckin’ Frog” a few months ago so I bought the album, which is fantastic. really dirty with some great remixes from Boys Noize and Hystereo (whose 2005 album “Corporate Crimewave” is a must have)

Heavy Rotation – Run For Your Life (Diamond Cut Instrumental)
This track takes a swift glance at the 80s and then takes the reverb off the drums and realizes it sounds better like that! Great melodies in this one. Was going to try to mix in “Europa” by Bob Sinclair but wanted to whack the next one in more.

The Presets – This Boy’s In Love
Oh my god. You need the new Presets album. It’s tonnes better than the first, and I loved that one! This track is amazing. gets the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. Really reminiscent of so many golden 80s tunes with that piano riff. Something Vince Clark could have written if he’d been so inclined. Makes me feel like I’m going mental in a gay techno circa 1990.

Revolte – Blackout
A new guy to my ears. Really Justice/SebastiAn. Whatever…it’s great. I’m definitely getting the album.

Bumblebeez – Rio
A great album my Press people gave me. I must say this is the best track off the album, but it is pretty good despite its similarity with Basement Jaxx.

Mr Oizo – Nazis (Justice Remix)
I don’t i need any words to describe this one. Crazy remix for a crazy dude. When that bassline drops I can’t help but thrust my pointed hand into the air. Despite sitting here in my bedroom with murder she wrote playing silently on the tv behind me. I know…I’m a loser.

Cheers for listening to my mix.”

Mixin’ It Up: Tim Turbo

This week we travel to Berlin for our Mixin’ It Up. There, in the land of techno and lovers reggae, we found one man that stands out and mixes the the fun from Jamaica with the electro sound of today. So when Tim Turbo isn’t out playing us on his own blog Cyan Wait, he sat down to make us this mix.

If you are in Stockholm today you can catch him on Club Pom Pom (at Berns) with Jamtech Foundation and the boys in Pom Pom. It’s going to be massive!

“This mix is basically what I listen to the whole day and what I play the whole night. Stuff thats affected by the Caribbean or tunes from the Caribbean, affected by European productions. Genres are overrated. Bass is duty. Jamaica is the fastest country alife. Kraftwerk is the genesis. Automatic doors make me feel like Jedi. And he is a good looking boy, by the way.

01 M.I.A. – Bucky Done Gun (Good Looking Boy Remix)

A exclusive remix by a friend of mine, called Good Looking Boy. He is a young, upcoming producer from Berlin, with love for 808 drums and straight in your face miamibass-like electro beats. Expect to hear way more on him soon on the relevant and worthwhile blogosphere and on myspace.com/goodlookingboyberlin. And he is good looking, by the way.

02 Raymond Bell – Jump In Line (Shake Shake Senora) (John Bourke Bmore Mix)

Caribbean flavoured Bmore. Thats that shit. For Me.

03 Baby Ft Clipse – What Happened To That Boy (DJ Amphibous Remix)

DJ Amphibous takes a classic, near perfect Neptunes produced übertrack., chops away most of the vocals, adds a killer bassline along with some extra boom to make this into something snowy fresh. Unfuckable.

04 Maskinen – Alla Som Inte Dansar

Everyone that doesn’t dance are rapists! Word!

05 Jamtech Foundation Ft Busy Signal – Pounds Of Dro

Jamtech Foundation from Sweden foisted a ravy dancetrumental on Busy Signal and up jumps the boogie. Large!

06 Machines Don’t Care – On A Roll Man

07 Rodion – Electric Soca (Crookers Remix)

I searched for some real Soca stuff and found this one and I was like: „electric“?, „soca“?, Yeah!
Needless to say that my favourite raggazzi are totally unfuckable anyway.

08 Jamtech Foundation – Bring In The Tune

Jamtech Foundation is here to stay. This tune is more atmo-techno-style then the other legendary monsters, but Cali P on the hook turns the tables in a 90s Dancehall way.

09 Cansei De Ser Sexy Ft Mapei – Music Is My Hot Hot Sex (Switch Remix)

I want to be like Switch. And I really looking forward to his Electro-Dancehall project with Diplo.

10 Young MC – Bust A Move (Don Rimini Ravekid Remix)

Young MC is oldschool. Don Rimini is oldschool 2.0

11 Maskinen – Segertaget (Dada Life Remix)

12 Juice String – Sex Weed (Laidback Luke Remix)

Zulu House. Zulu is banging on drums. Zulu is congas and cowbells. Zulu is a relentless kick drum. Zulu is rhythm. Zulu is jacking til you sweat. Zulu is old and new. Zulu is Get Rude. Zulu is a feeling. Zulu is that low down wobble you sometimes feel. Zulu is a familiar feeling. Zulu is fresh. Zulu is bass. Zulu is bigger than you and its totally okay to feel a little intimidated right now.”

13 Bart B More – Make Some Noise

14 Cowgum – Druggggssszzz (Edu K, Dr. Gonzo Remix Ft Wannabeastar)

Edu K deranges the already disturbing track by Cowgum. He is a Baile Funk divinity.

15 Da Hool – Love Parade (Van Miert Remix)

16 Sharkslayer – BadDing

100% bona fined facemelt 2008 realness here. Rib crushing bass, Ding Dong vocal samples (!!!) and production skills that can give the best a run for their money.

17 Teddybears – Cobrastyle (Diplo Remix)

I saw Diplo here in Berlin this year together with Tobias, my kinder garments sponsor of seen. (check: blog.seen-site.com and shop.seen-site.com) and it was pure enlightenment for me and him. Diplo is king.

18 Edu K Ft Madame Mim – Headbanger

19 Miss Odd Kidd – Sperm Donnor (Plimsouls Remix)

20 Dizzee Rascal – Pussyole (DJ Beware Remix)

Baile Funk captain DJ Beware gives this actual Bmorish tune a great new style. Ehm, Dizzee is unfuckable, too.

21 Bonde Do Role – Contaminada (Boss In Drama Remix)

Guess what? Bonde Do Role are Unfuckable.

22 DJ Sandrinho – Base Box Base Chao Base Beatbox Plus Tamborzao

Off Man Records terrific Rio Baile Funk Breaks, DJ tolls you can play like real tunes.. Wow.

23 DJ Sandrinho – Never B Alone Remix

I know ist played out. I don’t care.

24 Jamtech Foundation Ft Mr Vegas – Hot FuckR

25 Tony D. – Der Mann mit dem Klang (Flashgordon RMX)

The selftitled only german Crunk rapper and „Damager“, Tony D. gets a new electro base from Flashgordon and rolls down South Berlin. Windows down, elbows out.

26 Buraka Som Sistema – Yah

27 Tim Turbo X Tobias Lützenkirchen – Drei Tage Baile Funk (Tim Turbo Rebirth)

My remix of THE german afterhour techno tune of the summer. Got help by Rio Baile Funk Breaks, thanks Daniel.

28 Low Budget – They Call It Murder (Jamrock B-More Club Remix)

I like Bmore because its pure rhythm. Junior Gong’s übertune is pure bassline. What a couple

29 N.E.R.D. – Everyone Nose (Douster Remix)

30 South Rakkas Crew – South Rakkas Crew – Mad Again (Boy 8-Bit RMX)

South Rakks Crew gave a great impulse for the whole Electro meets Dancehall meets Whatever issue. Wich is my issue. So I have to play them.

31 Delinquent – Chalance Man

32 Detboi Ft Serocee – Jump Up And Down

33 Jamtech Foundation – Rumble Jumble Life

34 Abbey Kat – Naughty (Marflix Bassline Mix)

Marflix is the number one German Soca producer. He did this remix for the caribbean singer Abbey Kat. But its not what the caribbeans think of when they order a remix. Anyway, it’s exclusive.”

Download: Tim Turbo – Mixin it up for Discobelle (Sharebee)

Mixin’ it up: Zebo

This time we got Zebo who made this mix after he came back from playing at Lollapalooza. Zebo is about to have a 12” on the way on a new record label he started with Marco Morales called “Hot Dog Records”, featuring tracks from DJ Rampage, Elroy Vanderley, Redd Foxx, and myself. Each release name coming from a classic hot dog spot in Chicago and will be on vinyl as well as digital. Enough talk from me. Give it away Zebo!

Here is my mix. I had fun with it. It is made up of newer tracks that have grabbed my attention recently, but that I have not really played out that much. So most of them were unfamiliar to me so it was nice to discover some quality music.

1. Munk – Live Fast Die Old (Headman Remix)

This was my favorite remix of the couple that I’ve heard. That rolling bass sets a nice tone for the beginning of a mix. There is something real familiar about the tune that I can’t put my finger on.

2. Maral Salmassi – Firegem (Acidkids Remix)

The breakdown in this track is absolute bonkers. I love the drum work and have yet to hear this one on a proper system.

3. Doobie Brothers – What a Fool Believes (Chew Fu Hustle Song Refix)

Doobie Brothers? Seriously? Has such a feel good party tone that you have to move and dance. I really got down with the verses in this track and how it worked with the beat.

4. DJ Rob 3 – The Chase

Gotta give love to a Chi-town bredren with an amazing tune. At the right time this track can take the party to the next level. Rob and his crew have been grinding out here and have brought some great music. Expect some mean tracks from him in the future.

5. Sammy Bananas – Work Me

Another Sammy Bananas banger. I really get into his production and find myself droppin’ his tunes on the regular. They work well with a wide variety of crowds and always come correct.

6. Bird Peterson – Across 110th Street

The first time that I heard this I almost shed a tear. I have always loved the original and Bird came correct with the refix. Having a faster quantized version of a Bobby Womack classic is priceless.

7. Harvard Bass – Stitches

I heard this a few months back and was hooked. The production is very solid and hits so perfectly on a system.

8. Clark Able – Back in the Bronx (HiJack Remix)

Gotta throw some fidget in the mix. This going into the Fake Blood remix creates an epic trance breakdown. EPIC

9. Little Boots – Stuck on Repeat (Fake Blood Remix)

The mix from the Clark Able track was like out of an epic trance show. I really like this remix by Fake Blood and have noticed all of the buzz around their tracks and see why. This production is sick.

10. Louis La Roche – On The Floor

I randomly came upon a pack of this guy’s tracks and each one of them was dope. Solid French House. I think this guy is fairly young as well which shows that he has some great potential. The production and sound quality on this tune puts him up there with the big guys.

11. Krames – Whatever She Said

I Really dig a lot of Krames tracks. He picks good samples and knows how to put a track together in an interesting fashion. I was just thinking about this Redman track and then heard this remix and knew it had to go on the mix.

12. Bonde Do Role – Melo Do Tobaco (Jokers of the Scene Remix)

Bonde Do Role and Jokers of the Scene. That is really all you have to say.

13. DJ Sega – Be Remix

Sega is another one of those cats that doesn’t disappoint. Many of his bangers are included in my club sets and people always go off when they hear one.

14. The Ashton Shuffle – Stomp Yo Shoes (SHAZAM Remix)

I stumbled on this track a few days ago and really felt it. I see this working well at the party. Big Tings.

15. Stuffa Andy feat. Mapei – Pretty Girls Krazy Fiesta

Can’t get enough Mapei! This works every time.

16. Zero Cash – I Get Down

This track came to me from one of those dj service email things. Where you get tunes and if you are nice give some feedback on them. A lot of those tunes you get are just “meh”, but this one definitely stuck out as being quality.

17. Amphibious – What Happened?

This is killin’ it right now in the club. How could it not? Those edits are nice.

18. Emynd – Rock This Park

The Rock Creek Park Sample was an amazing touch. It is really what hooked me on this tune. It gets the party live and adds a touch of soul.

19. Hey Champ – In the White City – (Zebo Remix)

I just finished this remix the other day. Samples Boney M’s classic disco track, “Ma Baker.” The Hey Champ Djs did a great job of making a dance floor banger. My remix gives it a B-more / House / Fidget sort of feel.

Mixin’ It Up: dj.dstar

dj.dstar has been smashing dancefloors this summer with his remixes of “Shoulda Let You Go” and “Push The Feeling On”. Now it’s time for him to do the same with this weeks Mixin’ It Up:

“Hello, I’m dj.dstar from Buffalo, New York.
I DJ, make music, remix music, and everything else in between. Big ups to Discobelle for having me; I haven’t done a mixtape in awhile and people have been blowing me up about it so the timing is perfect to say the least. I like to play everything in my live sets, but this mix is pretty heavy on the bass…I’m a party DJ by nature and I do a variety of events so its not every day I get to play a super gully electro set of all dirty house…fun stuff! Expect a lot of house, electro and bassline in this mix!

1. dj.dstar – Intro

I went for the NYC mixtape vibe on the intro of this tape. When I started DJing, I used to love checking for rap mixtapes – back when crazy scratch intros were still cool. I figured some people coming from this side of music might never have heard this style so I wanted to try something a little different. Now note I’m from upstate NY, but we hardly ever get anthems like this written up here :) – but don’t forget about us, we still go hard up here!

2. Lil’ Wayne – A Milli (dj.dstar edit)

Everyone knows this is the hottest song in the States right now, so I had to kick it off proper. My edit is pretty simple, just adds a touch of my flavor while hanging onto the familiarity of the original chart topper.

3. Tricky – Council Estate (Kotchy Remix)

Straight fire!!! Very original, and very hard.

4. Taio Cruz – Come On Girl (Delinquent Remix)

I became obsessed with the bassline scene out of the UK when it popped a few months ago. Delinquent has some really nasty stuff, and I can get away with it even in some of the more mainstream clubs I play because they’ve done a lot of remixes for top40 artists…the J Holiday Bed remix is also highly recommended.

5. Hoods Up! (aka. dj.dstar & L-ion) – Bass Drop (Demo Version)

This summer when I was kicking back in good ole’ Buffalo, my partner L-ion and I decided to start making some club jams and remix some shit. This is one we came up with. We have a ton of tunes we’re sitting on, hoping to someday put out an EP when we get the chance.
Peep us

6. Kromestar – Get Up

When Fatman Scoop said “Bass Drop,” he meant it! Dirty!!!

7. Thunderheist – Jerk It (Nacho Lovers Remix)

I met these guys awhile back in Buffalo. Good people and I’m glad they’re doing it big…this has been my jam lately.

8. Machines Don’t Care – Afro Jacket

Love the Mike Jones sample, to say the least! Everyone in this camp is nasty as hell.

9. Keyshia Cole – Shoulda Let You Go (dj.dstar bassline remix)

This is a bassline inspired remix I did awhile back. People really seemed to dig it, and it even made its way in the Washington Post somehow.

10. Math Head – Turn The Music Up
11. Math Head – Turn The Music Up (AC Slater Remix)

This entire EP is so well produced. I hear something new every time I listen to it. Incredible.

12. AC/DC – Thunderstruck (Crookers Remix)

FIREEEE, I’ve been loving the Crookers lately. This track causes problems in the club!!!

13. Hoods Up! – Got That Wild Style (Demo Version)

R.I.P. Big L!

14. Proxy – 40 Seconds

Robocop sample is priceless. This is the point in the mix where I say to myself…”damn I really took it to the rave…”

15. South Rakkas Crew – Mad Again (DJ Sega Remix)

…so then I put on some DJ Sega and it’s all better. Baltimore Club and Dancehall with a dash of one of the best house tracks ever…you’ve gotta be nuts to not feel it.

16. Boy 8-Bit – Ghosthouse (Suspense Is Killing Me pt. 2)
17. Boy 8-Bit – Suspense Is Killing Me

Boy 8-Bit is one of my favorite new artists. Between the wide span of influences and sounds he draws from, the great tones he achieves, and the way his tracks unfold so well…

18. Stardust – Music Sounds Better With You

This is one of my faves of all time. I know you’ve heard it before, but come on, I had to cool you off after all that rave :)

That’s it! Thanks a lot for listening, and don’t forget to check me out!
