James Yuill remix competition

no-surprise-by-james-yuill_we_k0ayqacgx_full

The last twelve months have seen Londoner James Yuill make the journey from self-releasing records from his suburban bedroom studio to signing with Moshi Moshi Records, gigging everywhere from the Radio One Big Weekend to a beach in the Bahamas, and releasing his debut album “Turning Down Water For Air”. He also managed to squeeze in a Mixin’ It Up for us here at Discobelle.

“No Surprise” (a recent iTunes single of the week) originally comes in a choice of three flavours: the original album version, where James’s songwriting and electronic wizardry are in perfect balance or in brand new ‘Earth’ and ‘Fire’ versions where James takes the song for inspired diversions down acoustic and dancefloor routes respectively. But now we’ve got the acappella for you to play around with. The prize for the best remix is that it will released in some way by Moshi Moshi/James Yuill and the winner will also get the Moshi Moshi back catalogue and James Yuill goodies. Get cracking and send your remixes this way (end date is June 6th)!

PS. Those of you in Malmö tonight should go and check out James when he plays at Babel.

PS 2. New single “Over The Hills” will drop May 25th on Moshi Moshi.

Moshi Moshi Records 10th birthday mix

Friday, January 30th, 2009

This mix was made for the Moshi Moshi 10-years party back in October last year, so when the guys from Moshi Moshi suggested that we could give it to our readers we immediately jumped right on it. If you, like us, are fans of the label you will have a blast listening to it (there is even an unreleased exclusive Hot Chip track in there).

James Yuill remix

James Yuill is becoming a staple here on Discobelle, we especially like how he manages to combine a softer, almost folky acoustic driven sound with electronic beats. James recently remixed Rod Thomas’s single “Same Old Lines” and here Rod returns the favour. James’ debut album “Turning Down Water For Air” is out now on Moshi Moshi.
