Egyptrixx’s debut album, the “Bible Eyes” LP is out now, and as a reminder to pick up this grizzled portrait of celestial electronic club music, we’re posting a few of the tracks we’ve been listening to in building anticipation for this album. Murky and brooding one minute, it has the tendency to erupt into rising synths that sound like fireworks or other more sinister explosions in the sky. The tone shifts from introspective to boomingly confident, and it’s all fantastic.

Egyptrixx – Chrysalis Records (feat. Trust)

Be sure to grab Bible Eyes digitally on Boomkat, or as a 2 x LP on Juno Records.

Also, you can read a brief interview with Egyptrixx after the jump where he talks a bit about the making of Bible Eyes.

Discobelle: Making an album seems different than EPs in the sense that it’s trying to maybe evoke a more consistent narrative.

Egyptrixx: Yea, the LP format simultaneously provides more space to experiment but also a greater opportunity to be cohesive. It was a lot of fun to write, I definitely enjoyed the process.

Do you feel like the difference in feeling between albums and EPs makes you want to focus on one more than the other in the future?

I’m not sure “feeling” is so directly tied to one format or the other, but right now my mind is thinking in terms of full-length albums.

When working on an album, do you ever feel like the final product has become something other than what you’ve intended it to be? Or when making something as big as an album, is it important to feel like you’re somewhat in control of all finer points of the process?

At the outset, the only thing I had in mind was a set of parameters; a sound palette, some song structure guidelines and a vague lyrical theme. These guides are pretty important to me, I find it almost impossible to work without them. It wasn’t that I was ever working towards an envisioned final product, but always within those parameters.

You’ve been touring quite a bit lately. How’s the experience of re-assembling material from the Bible Eyes LP been live?

Its been interesting, and mostly great. Still a work in progress for sure.

This album marks your first vocal collaboration with Toronto based artist Trust. How did the collaboration happen, and will you be incorporating more collaborations into future work?

I’m a big fan of their band and approached them to write some songs. In my experience, the mechanics of each collaboration are usually completely different. No two are alike. Ill definitely be doing more collaborations.

Looking back to some of your earlier work, how would you say that Bible Eyes differs?

The album was the first thing I wrote being fully committed to Egyptrixx as a full-time gig, up until this point most of my releases were just experiments with different sounds or production techniques.

What’s on the horizon for Egyptrixx?

More writing and more touring.

“Infamous duo Savage Skulls are back and they found some time between their collaborative projects with Robyn, Douster, Crookers and Marcus Price to hit with two slick dancefloor destroyers. “Caravan” is a tech house stomper backed by a mesmerizing melody of vocal chops that you will instantly recognize. “Watching You”, their collaboration with flatmate Tony Senghore and vocalist Sprinkle Juice is raw, stripped-down backroom electro at its finest: sensitive but not devoid of muscle. On remix duties, Montreal sensation Jacques Greene (Lucky Me, Night Slugs) united garage deepness with a jacking 90′s feel, while Made To Play’s Payme (Jaime Anderson from Idiotproof) offers a classy tracky rework build for the front room.”

Often showing his influences in a more direct way, these edits aren’t afraid to substantially rework the tracks, whether that means cutting Kanye & Jay Z out of “Monster”, taking Sean Kingston out of his duet with Nicki Minaj, or in this case taking out all the rapping and just leaving in a trancelike synth line and Jim Jones hoarsely yelling “I need y’all to rewind this and play it from the top!” Will do, Jim Jones. Will do.
