New Samo Sound Boy EP on Trouble & Bass

Lover of bootleg t-shirts Samo Sound Boy is following up his debut on Palms Out Sounds with an EP on Trouble & Bass that harkens back to some rave fundamentals.

“Burning and Stealing” feels like the champion of the EP, full of measured kick, soulful vocals rising up with a sizzling soca drum pattern lined behind it. “Rattlesnake” makes you feel like your brain is intercepting SOS signals from some spacecraft orbiting around the planet sending out squealching rave stabs.

Stream them both below, and read up on the Mixpak interview with Samo if you haven’t yet.

Voltron DJ’s – City Lights & Sleepless Nights Mix

Voltron DJ’s along with the Silverback Recordings label (which they run together with Ultravid) down in Belgium have emerged as one of the top class labels when it comes to the bastardized breed of r ‘n’ b/grime/uk funky infused bassfilled dance music that we’ve grown accostumed to thanks to some banging releases on labels such as Night Slugs, Palms Out, Numbers et al. We here at Discobelle are proud to present this exclusive mix, which is in our opinion is one of the best mixes of 2010, this mix has a little something for everyone with some classics of their choice + of course some exclusive forthcoming tunes. This mix is a true display of the skill and talent that these guys possess.

“For this mixtape we tried to make a representative selection of the artists and labels we really like the most right now. It contains pretty much everything we’re in for: UK underground, old school straight forward house cuts, some peak time sophisticatedness, bass-driven drama, …next to the obligatory personal demos for our upcoming EP, that we’re working on and already got altered a dozen times in the mean time (as tends to happen with demos). We didn’t forget to feature some future Silverback Recordings – the label we run together with Ultravid – either! We’re really busy with these projects, so we had some long nights fitting the mixtape in and getting it done properly… hence the title! It was well worth it of course, and we hope you enjoy too!!

Marcus Price & Carli

Our friends over at Palms Out just dropped this bomb of a release on us with the Marcus Price & Carli EP entitled “Mat Bira Kvinnor Weed” (which is Swedish for “Food Beer Women Weed”).

The title track can only be described as being a: “bouncy ride for your backside – sub bass booming, skittering whistles, booty bumps and scratched robot voices for days. We already fed you the Kingdom remix (other remixers include Dubbel Dutch and Crazy Pays) of said track a few months ago but we’ll give you new chance to grab it below. On the B-side we find “Var E Näääken” (which translated mean “Where is Näääken?”, Näääken being their formerly incarcerated home boy) which delves even deeper into bass cabinets destruction. Huge 808s, persistent snares, and shuffling shakers make for a huge party starter. (Remixers for the b-side are Bok Bok, Girl U.N.I.T and Norrit)

Listen to the whole EP below and then go grab yourself some serious tunes.

Savage Skulls

Stockholms finest, Savage Skulls, did it again with this simply fantastic remix of the track “Break Your Heart” by British singer/songwriter Taio Cruz (we first heard it in their recently released “Endless Summer” mix that we posted a few weeks ago) and this is bound to haunt our sets for months to come. (Thanks to Haldan over at Palms Out)

Voodeux

Voodeux is Boston producer Tanner Ross and Philly producer James Watts (AKA Kilo Watts). The duo are about to release their album “The Paranormal” sometime in June on Claude Von Stroke’s San Francisco based label Mothership. The track “Bones” is a six minute growling and sinister yet complex techno monster just waiting to sink its claws into an unsuspecting dancefloor. We can see people losing their shit to this.

Voodeux – Bones (Sharebee)

PS. Check out their “Just A Spoonful” track over at Palms Out.

Blänk – I’m Going For Your Brother (video + remixes)

The Blänk project with a follow-up to the smashing track “Take Your Shirt Off”. The track “I’m Going For Your Brother” gives us the vocal offerings from Lina (of The Touch fame) + Atlanta rapper Young Ivy. The original is a breathtaking slice of italodisco that reminds us of Sally Shapiro while the Waa!Fi (Andreas from The Touch) remix aims straight for the dancefloor with its bassdriven stomp and Boody B (AKA Haldan from Palms Out) switches it up with more of a soft electrodisco take.
