Boom! Monday and a Discobelle exclusive.

After almost a year of constant touring all over the world – including Brazil, the US and Scandinavia + an inspirational trip to Brazil – hyped and boombastic Swedish dancefloor destroyers Maskinen are back with the funky, tribalistic new single “Dansa Med Vapen” (released last week and can be purchased here). The single was produced by Johan Hugo (of Radioclit and The Very Best fame) and features Marina (ex-vocalist for Brazilian phenomena Bonde Do Role). The much anticipated debut album from Maskinen is entitled “Boys II Men” and it will be released by Pope Records on November 4th, production on the album comes from a bunch of top names such as Style Of Eye, DJ Gorky, Edu K, Filthy etc etc.

WHOA-cover-2-packshot

The Very Best just finished storming across the US with a few much acclaimed live shows. They even managed to throw a Secousse party in New York, pitting NYC versus London.

Here are two new remixes by UK electronic trio Metronomy and Australian indie outfit Architecture In Helsinki of the title track (which leaked a few weeks ago and featured the vocal duties of Vampire Weekend singer Ezra Koenig) from their upcoming album “Warm Heart Of Africa”. Metronomy gives us a whole different take on the track replacing some vocals but incorporating a synthline and what sounds like a tweaked up sample of their single “Heartbreaker” with its strutty bass, meanwhile the Architecture In Helsinki crew focuses on the horns from the original to keep that warm and joyful feeling.

Vyle releases a new installment of his Hoodtronics mixtape series. The first version mixed by Flosstradamus in 2007 (Rolling Stone Mag’s Best DJ’s of 2008) was met with alot of praise, it’s packed with collaborations between many of today’s upcoming electro, dance and rap artists (such as Surkin, Radioclit, DatA, Kid Sister).

This next installment is just as packed to the brim with collaborations, remixes etc. as the first mixtape and shows Vyle evolving even more, production coming from Tepr, Daedelus, Chuck Inglish (The Cool Kids), Million Dolla Mano and vocal apperances by Mestizo and High Priest (from newly reformed Anti-Pop Consortium), this mixtape reassures us that 2009 is going to a great year for Vyle.

This has been sitting in our mailbox for a couple of days, but I finally got around to listen to it now. Terry Lynn on a beat produced by Johan from Radioclit and guess what, he samples an old Dr. Alban tune. So corny it actually gets good.

This track will be on the Red Stripe commissioned album “It Was Written” that will hit the internet on Monday.

The Very Best – Kamphopo (official video)

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

This video from The Very Best boys is just what we needed to as a pick me up after the party we played last night together with Jamtech Foundation (they seriously slaughtered it, they’ll be doing it big in 2009).

“Esau Mwamwaya went back to Lelongwe, Malawi in October 2008 for the first time in 9 years. I came with him to play at the Lake Of Stars festival and to shoot this video and film his homecoming in general. We had a crazy respons from local press, radio and tv. we rehearsed at Lucius Banda’s famous ‘Summit’ venue for 3 days with local dancers. We went to see the live venue where Esau’s music career started ‘Village Lodge’, and we hung out with Esau’s family and their neighbours outside of Lelongwe. Most of the kids dancing in the video is Esau’s brothers and all their neighbours kids. They all new all the words by the time we got there, very cute! We played Lake Of Stars festival, which argubly might be the best festival in the world. Ive been meaning to edit all the material since then but havnt had time. Now ive finally manged to sit down and do it and hopefully you’ll like it and get a little bit of insight into what Esau Mwamwaya is up to in Malawi at the moment.”

Oh yeah, grab that excellent The Very Best mixtape over here.
