Every week we join our friends at Babylon to recommend a new track for their listeners. This week the program is on break but we have something else for you guys instead. Babylon and EMI just launched a new remix contest. It’s Useless Wooden Toys track “Il Tirannosauro” that all producers out there has a chance to put their twist to and if it’s good enough it will be featured on the forthcoming Tirannosauro EP that EMI are releasing on Itunes this summer!

Here’s the winner and runner ups for the remix competition we hosted together with Gilles Peterson, Havana Cultura and our French friends in Fluokids.

Gilles Peterson narrowed down our selections to one Grand Prize Winner and 11 runner-ups for a total of 12 winners instead of the previously stated 10. You will find the list below. After many years in London, arranging clubs, creating art and being in electro bands, Petter Wallenberg (check his facebook site) returned to his native Sweden and realised that many of the things he had run away from were actually quite fun and loveable. And so he started Mums Mums (Swedish for yum yum) – a club, a magazine, a creative collective and a movement, bringing aesthetic chaos to the streamlined Scandistyle of Stockholm with twisted happenings, porn musicals and pig-nosed hostesses. All to the soundtrack of dance music from a time when love was the message.

Now Mums Mums turns into a new incarnation, that of a record label, as he releases his debut album. The album itself, Legends, is one big stage featuring the whole cast of his background. A fusion of Disco with old school Hiphop, Electro, Lovers rock, Punk and classic House, on Legends Wallenberg collaborates with his favorite female artists of all time. Stars like Ari Up from pioneering punk group The Slits appear alongside early Swedish rap icons Leila K and Efti (of cult girl group Midi, Maxi & Efti), next to new edgy talent like Mapei and JWL B (of Florida rappers Yo Majesty). It also features soul divas Victoria Wilson James (Soul II Soul and The Shamen) and Octavia St Laurent from the legendary documentary about the vogue scene, Paris Is Burning. Both Ari Up and Octavia St Laurent later died of cancer, making their appearances even more precious.

Wallenberg’s first single, Legendary (featuring Leila K), is released on the 30th of May 2011. The lyrics are based on a triumphantly bitchy line from Paris is burning, introducing the album’s battle cry, “I’m legendary – you’re not!”

Big name producers, DJ’s, fans and beginners – you are all invited to make your own version of “Legendary” (The acapella is available on his website). Mums Mums Records and Cosmos Music Group will then pick out the remixes they like the most and release them both digitally and on an exclusive vinyl 12″!

Wallenberg is looking for your very special remix. Do your thang and remember – you are legendary!

Here we go – we know that a bunch of you readers have been waiting for this – the results of the “Peanuts Club” remix contest that we did together with Turbo Recordings!

Congratulations to Monsieur Monsieur, the unanimous winner of the Turbo Peanuts Club Remix Contest! The French duo gets a Turbo “Pro DJ” subscription, a feature and interview on the Turbo site, and warm wishes of encouragement from everyone who lost.

1. Monsieur Monsieur Remix — I admit… it’s great. A bit ‘standard,’ maybe, but it’s pro…. I heard Matt Walsh play it at Matter and it sounded great. More French people ‘on the scene,’ ooh la la!

2. Ricorb Remix — original, banging, but arrangement is a bit rough…. deserves points for the UUNNGHH breakdown.

3. Bananas in the Peanut Club Modified Noise Remix — (can’t believe Brodi didn’t list this) Peanuts going hip hop makes total sense to me. this was the only one that went in that direction, and I thought it worked.

4. Peanuts Club (Eye Whiteley’s Albert II rmx) — Restrained at parts… nice for a change… has funk…… the dubsteppy bass wasn’t a homerun for me, but the trippier bits kept me interested.

5. Peanuts Club (Zhao Remix) — Almost amazing. I like the swing Mr. ZHAO put in the hook, but the breakdown exposes it in a way that didn’t totally work for me.

Mike Mind’s Top 5

1. Monsieur Monsieur Rmx — Definitely the standout in the bunch and compliments all the ‘official’ remixes on the release! Congrats!

2. Zhao Remix — I love anything that reminds me of Smokebelch iI! Very creative use of the parts. Did not expect to hear many ‘dreamy’ takes on this record.

3. Crude & Conchörd Tropiacal Rmx — Even if it wasn’t my vibe per se, this mix is probably the one that’s most faithful to the parts. One of the most coherent remixes in the bunch.

4. Cid-25 Remix — Remeniscent of old Markus Nicolai records and an era of electro that’s always struck a chord with me. Love it.

5. Eye Whiteley’s Albert II Rmx — An odd combination of Loco Dice style house and Proxy bass that oddly works somehow.
