The Young Professionals – D.I.S.C.O. (Yuksek Remix)

It’s possible that I might be a Francophile with a bit of a disco obsession, but objectively speaking Yuksek‘s remix of The Young Professionals “D.I.S.C.O.” is fantastic. Yuksek’s take on the electro pop duo from Tel Aviv’s track is boogie worthy with its layers of arpeggio synths that create a gradual build up as the song progresses.

Hard Ton – In This Moment (Dimitri From Paris & DJ Rocca Eurodiscomix)

French disco house producer Dimitri From Paris has teamed up with DJ Rocca on a remix for his Eurodiscomix series. Their take on Hard Ton’s “In This Moment” is groovy and lush with some jazz flavor, especially with the flute sounds at the end.

Hard Ton’s Not Again EP is out February 13th on Gomma records sister label Toy Tonics.

The Weeknd – Next (Keys N Krates Remix)

It’s mind boggling to think that Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd, is only 21 years old and has already released three albums in the last ninth months. The Canadian-born songwriter and producer defies pop star expectations, releasing all his music for free, declining interviews and communicating with fans only through social media outlets like Twitter and Tumblr.

His music is definitely R&B influenced, but it would be unfair to categorize it as such. It’s atmospheric and experimental while still being accessible. Lyrically, he strips down the culture of today’s youth with his own introspective tales of love and lust. Tracks like “Next” off Echoes of Silence is slow and piano tinged and seduces you with its desperately relatable story of unrequited love and Tesfaye’s stunning falsetto.

Fellow Canadian musicians Keys n Krates give “Next” the remix treatment, chopping up the vocals and bringing out a heavier drum line by adding snares, all of which rhythmically challenges an already great track. The trio of turntablist DJ Jr-Flo, keyboardist Matisse, and drummer Adam Tune give “Next” a little bit more electro flavor and is just a taste of their live set.

Joelito

Malmö producer Joelito with his song “Sickhead” (we’ve posted about the track before here on Discobelle but it’s now being released as an EP by Mad Decent sublabel Jeffrees). The tracks sounds like Mexican 3ball but Joelito’s use of horns completely flips the track upside down. The remixes from Flore, Boyfriend and Copia Doble Systema continue where he left off by transporting the track to new dimensions. Also, be on the lookout for Joelito’s new EP “Crudo” which will be coming out March 3rd on Vienna based label Big ‘N Hairy.

Meech – I Want

Toronto producer, all around amazing guy and part of the Discobelle Records family – Meech – just dropped his new EP “I Want” on Discobelle’s Danish brethren label Demento Mori.

On the EP we find the Ashanti sampling “I Want” which propels us into a world of top class, pumping, percussiontinged house music with a chopped up vocal sample to die for, there’s also remixes deluxe from D.Fine, Olibusta, Raziek and Square Mode where each one brings something new and exciting to the table.

Housse De Racket – Chateau (JBAG Remix) (Premiere)

Housse de Racket, which translates in English to ‘tennis racket cover,’ are Victor Le Masne and Pierre Leroux. Late last year the two released a masterful video for the single “Chateau” off their sophomore album Alesia. The video tells the story of a sci-fi romance, opening with the male lead looking at his gargoyle reflection in the mirror. The entire video is sombre, full of compelling yet detached moments that are a reflection of the lyrics, “We don’t talk but it’s fine, we go for a walk in the park, this place is falling apart.” The poignancy of the video works well with the emotional feel of the track and moves you to watch it at least a few more times.

Producers inspired by the song and its video have jumped to create their own interpretation of the track and so far we’ve seen remixes from Punks Jump Up and Mickey. This latest remix that we’re proud to premiere is by the London-based duo of Jerry Bouthier and Andrea Gorgerino, otherwise known as JBAG. The two add layers of synth that make the track irresistibly poppy that make it hard not to get out of your desk chair and groove.

Ladyhawke – Black, White & Blue (Punks Jump Up Remix)

New Zealand native Ladyhawke debuts the video for “Black, White & Blue,” the first single off her highly anticipated sophomore album Anxiety. The video is shot through a retro tinged lense and in it we see Ladyhawke stepping out of her signature punk grunge look into a more glammed up ensemble. In the video, Ladyhawke plays the role of a photographer at a high-end fashion shoot.

Sneaky Sound System – Really Want to See You Again (Azari and III Remix)

Azari and III breaks all the rules with their remix of Sneaky Sound System‘s “Really Want to See You Again.” The original track itself is great and gleams with Connie Mitchell’s golden vocals and a 90s dance pop vibe. Dinamo and Alixander III flip the switch by cutting up the vocals and adding some retro feeling synths, turning the song into a decidedly deep house track that oozes sexuality.
