The new single “Meditation/Tutan Jamon” from Berlin based artist Franz Matthews and Berlin dj/production duo Local Suicide (out tomorrow March 15th via our Belgian friends in Eskimo Recordings) has been making the rounds and already received praise via various media outlets such as Resident Advisor, Magnetic Magazine etc.

We here at Discobelle can premiere the hypnotic sounding 1001 Nights mix of the B-side track “Tutan Jamon” and as you can hear it joins the dots between the grey streets of Berlin and the vibrant souks of the middle east and north Africa.

Nothing like a Lunice mix to make the week fly by a whole lot faster.

“In my mixes, like at my shows, I tend to approach it from a producer’s perspective, where I think about making an hour-long track mixed with songs instead of drum kits. I also like to add my own production on top of certain songs and not credit it as a “Lunice Edit” or remix, because that’s just how I like to work. I’m usually on the go when working on mixes. I find that being in a different environment every time is inspiring… I try to keep things simple as to how I want to present any of my projects. Same goes for this mix. A simple approach to get my style across to the listener.”

The weekend is about to start and we’re easing into it with guidance from London producer/dj and Night Slugs co-founder Bok Bok and his recent flawless mix of bassfilled and “new skool club music” tracks done for Resident Advisor.

“The tracks in here all come from different places, and I try to bring them together and make them sound like they’re all coming from the same place. In this mix, drums rule. It doesn’t vary in tempo as much as I have at other times, so it’s really about this steady, endless momentum from the percussion. I was thinking a lot about the parameters of our Club Constructions series, which I’ll be talking about more in the coming months, but the key is to keep things stripped down. There’s also a heavy slant towards what I’ve been thinking about in my head as “new skool club music,” an idea informed by Jersey club and ballroom music and all the forthcoming Night Slugs material that’s in this mix from artists like Helix, Deamonds and Neana.”

The project Darkside consisting of producer Nicolas Jaar and guitarist Dave Harrington performs the track “Paper Trails” in the first edition of the Resident Advisor Sessions.

“Jaar and Harrington sank a couple of whiskeys and subtly teased the track out to twice its original length.

Magnificent British producer/dj Joy Orbison with his contribution to the Resident Advisor Podcast series, game over for mixes for the rest of the year.

“I wanted to capture elements of how I play at my residency for meandyou. in Manchester and also incorporate my sets elsewhere. Quite like the idea of people listening to it before a night out but essentially I hope it’s an engaging listen that doesn’t necessarily rely on the idea of a club setting for it to make sense.”
