Salem - Dirt (video)

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Patrik North of Summer Lovers Unlimited and Acephale Records fame just e-mailed us about the disturbing yet eerily beautiful “Dirt” video from Salem. It was filmed and directed by Salem themselves in their hometown of Traverse City, Michigan.

Look out for their new EP on Merok Records come October, in the meantime there’s still a few copies left of “Yes I Smoke Crack” EP at places like Turntable Lab, Rough Trade or Pure Groove. You should try and get it ASAP.

Patrick North (from SLU fame) hooked us up with this gem. SALEM will be the debut on his brand new label Acephale The record is due to be finished up in a few weeks and it’s pretty much already sold out. The sound is kind of hard to describe but here is Patricks attempt: “there is a huge gothy shoegaze thing going on but they also incoroporate elements of southern rap, juke and screw. Comparable bands are The Knife, Chromatics, Burial, Cocteau Twins etc etc.”

This is their interpretation of Bruce Springsteen’s “Streets of Philadelphia” - it’s entitled “Brustreet”. An eerie and hauntingly beautiful version.
