NYC based producer/dj and Fool’s Gold Records family member Sammy Bananas has been a staple here at Discobelle ever since we started out some 10+ years ago, mainly because he always keeps it quirky and fun. His debut EP for fellow New Yorkers in boutique label Bastard Jazz is slated for a release tomorrow March 15th and the “Piananana EP” showcases his signature funky and piano based club tracks mixed in with more late night action in a sweaty and packed basement kind of sound.

The track “Non-Stop” (currently the #12 bestseller on Traxsource) is in its original form a hypnotic and bass heavy stomper that Parisian producer Hugo LX transforms into an equally hypnotic track but with a more reserved and almost loungelike feeling.

The moustache clad producer/dj Sammy Bananas started out in Boston together with a fella named Max as the duo Certified Bananas (they did a smashing mix for us in Discobelle back in 2006 called “Sweden On Blast”).

Sammy moved down to Brooklyn, became part of the Fool’s Gold Records crew, and continues to douse out magical and funky club jams that manages to pay respect to the classic house/disco sound but also stays ahead of the curve.

This mix for us in Discobelle was made at the same time as Sammy wrecked havoc on SXSW and WMC, we’re super glad he took the time out to churn out one seriously amazing mix that should have you dancing well into the summer.

PS. Those of you located in NYC, check out Sammy together with Gigamesh and Cassian at the Good Room in Brooklyn this Friday.

The first solo effort from NYC based artist Maggie Horn comes in the form of the Telephoned (the outfit she formed together with Sammy Bananas) produced EP “Never/Know” , and this three track EP is the perfect companion to our October. Overall we get dark, electropop laced vibes that are bound together with hypnotic effects, catchy choruses and slow synthbased beats.

Last night, the world received a ‘Blood-Moon’, Lunar eclipse. At certain global positions, there was said to be a astrological phenomenon called ‘selenelion,’ an occurrence in which is is possible to see the sun rise in the east simultaneously as the moon sets in the west. A celestial event such as this could only be seen as a fitting analogy for this latest Fool’s Gold release in which we see such an assemblage of talent that one could only assume it was written in the stars.

I’m being cheeky over here, of course, but seriously; the players that came together on the latest single from Sammy Bananas is, well, ‘Bananas!’ Here we feature the remix chops of our man from the mile-high-city, option4, who twists the vintage house stomp of the original cut into a gee’d-out, melancholic banger. Equal parts light and dark, sun and moon, energetic power and gentile caress. Top stuff, Mr. option4. You’ve out-done yourself here!

“This mix is smooth yet funky. These selections are sure to warm it up whether you’re Flexin’ down the streets or between the sheets. There’s lots of new heat, some tried & true classics, as well as a couple Sammy B exclusives. Throw it on, take it off, get flexual”
