Sunburn Festival x Tuborg x Discobelle: The finale

We in Discobelle went down to Goa, India courtesy of Tuborg to cover the huge 6th edition of Sunburn Goa, the biggest dance music festival in Asia which surprisingly we hadn’t heard of before.

After a pretty long flight we arrived in Goa on the morning of December 27th, just in time to head to the festival that was held non-stop between December 27th-29th at two separate stage areas right by beautiful Candolim Beach. This year the lineup was packed with of some of the world’s top house/electro dj’s including names such as Paul Van Dyk, Roger Sanchez, AN21, Sander van Doorn, Fedde Le Grand and Dirty Vegas. Also performing at the festival were well known (we understood why after hearing their blazing sets) Indian dj’s such as Nawed Khan and DJ Pearl, smaller but still rather well known acts such as Albin Myers and Djuma Soundsystem, alongside new acquiantances such as Reggae Rajahs and Vinayak A.

The festival saw an attendance of over 150 000 and all three days were packed with an audience ready to dance the night away, during our visit we saw thousands of smiling faces and it seemed like everybody was there to enjoy themselves and to just have fun. All in all, the festival made quite an impression with its spectacular stage areas with amazing light shows, friendly and partygoing crowd and last but not least, smashing performances by artists that really seemed to enjoy playing at the festival and were all greeted by an intense feedback.

Sunburn Festival Goa: Day 1

The first day of the 2012 edition of the Sunburn Festival in Goa saw us at first wandering about the festival grounds checking out the various things on offer such as food stalls, various fun and games in booths from Absolut, Mini Cooper, Pioneer and Tuborg along with a flea market and lots of other things. The actual festival came out of the starting blocks with a relentless afternoon set of electro from Irish outfit The Japanese Popstars on one of the main stages. The duo pummeled the audience who loved every minute of it. Meanwhile on one of the smaller stages Indian dj Vinayak A smoothed things out a with a groovy and progressive house with a hint of disco set. As nightfall descended on the massive and beautifully beach located festival grounds, London dj/producer Avalon kept things pumping with a trancey set that made the crowd dance themselves into a frenzy, on the opposing main stage Mumbai dj Nawed Khan immersed the crowd with a magnificent set of pure hit fun that had them on their knees and eating out of his hand. The first night concluded with Dutch dj Sander Van Doorn showing us exactly why he was headlining the evening. All in all, a great first day and we’re looking forward to the two coming festival days.
