Congaloid

Newly started label Congaloid is the brainchild of Italian but now based in London producer/dj Stefano Ritteri who might be better known as Solo, he has made a name for himself with releases on highly regarded dance music labels such as Deadfish, Sound Pellegrino and Dirtybird. His latest release “The Flea Circus/Cringe” dropped a few weeks ago on Kling Klong. Congaloid has already two releases under its belt, the inaugural release “Alki Bamba” comes from the label boss himself and is one prime example of tribal percussion based modern house music that will leave your booty shaking for days.

“For years I have been thinking about starting a label. Initially it was a joke amongst friends, a thought about being a “taste maker”, a response to the frustration that sometimes we, as producers, experience when we finish a new song and would like to put it out there as soon as possible, but sometimes label politics induce long delays, or even worse, cancellations. I was lucky enough to start releasing on great labels pretty quickly and this opened doors, introduced me to lots of people, amazing producers, and taught me how this game must be played. With this in mind I am now starting this new adventure, called Congaloid. What I want to do is expose new artists, try to get them visibility and show to my fellow djs and fans their music. There are so many labels around that sometimes we miss great songs and ideas simply because they get lost in the big internet mess. It gives me great pleasure when I find some new producers out there and play their songs before anyone else, and I hope that Congaloid will give the same feeling to every listener and every avid dj that wants the freshest stuff. Listening to all the promos that already arrive daily in my e-mail makes me feel like back in the “record shops days”, when I used to queue to get the latest vinyl, even better if it had a white label on, so I could play it to people for first and (just sometimes) lie about the title or the producer… I am very happy with the music we have so far and will be released in the coming months, and I am also excited to hear comments, feedbacks, suggestions from anyone who will care to do so…

Congaloid is a crew forming right now…welcome on board… :)”

Solo also just did a mix for esteemed music magazine Mixmag.

Tracklist for the mix can be found after the jump.

Solo – Strawberry Swing EP + Free DJ Mag Mix

The Italian house juggernaut Solo has just released a new track on Great Stuff! Recordings which rivals everything else he’s put out thus far.

While recent release “Midgets Go Deep” was a straight up cut of soulful housey reminiscing, “Strawberry Swing” employs a twitching kind of distortion at the base of its groove – the house flourishes are there in the background, but most of your attention is taken up by the expanding and deflating warped percussion elements of the track. You can grab the track on the new Munich Discotech Volume 12 compilation.

Preview Strawberry Swing below, and grab a free mix that Solo put together for DJ Mag that’s crammed with the usual / unusual selection of rump shaking cuts that he’s known for.

Solo – Midgets Go Deep EP

New Solo release on Lapsus Music is a strong dose of housey truth – didn’t know that gospel spoken word about what house music stands for could sound so good complimented by Solo’s trademark funky drums and some seriously emotional saxaphone moments after the big breakdown. There are even some strings in this one! How do we even classify music anymore?

B-side “Herbalistic” may be about loving weed (just a guess), but it’s equally about the quick paced organ moments and plucked rising strings racing over the beat while dubby vocals narrate things in the background. The drop sneaks up on you and if you’re lucky, will ascend you to another level of consciousness.

Remixes from Mr. Ho & Supernova, do yourself a favor and grab this one ASAP when it drops on July 4th.

Round Table Knights – Autumn Mix 2010

The fine Swiss gentlemen in Round Table Knights put together another edition of their seasonal mix series, their Autumn mix is absolutely splendid and as you probably already well aware of when it comes to this duo – filled with an exquisite track selection and as always flawlessly executed.

Round Table Knights – Autumn Mix 2010 (drop.io)

PS. Round Table Knights – will together with heavy hitters Zombie Disco Squad, Solo, Christian Martin and Midland – be headlining the You Can Call Me Pelski party in London on Saturday November 6th that’s presented together with booking agency-of-the-moment Jackmode in order to bring you a very special line-up. The event is held in a temporary venue under London Bridge as part of Counter Culture and the line-up reads like a who’s who of fun, funky and tribal-infused tech-house, showcasing artists hailing from some of the most influential labels in the game: Made To Play, Jackmode, Dirtybird, Turbo and Deadfish.

Tracklist for the mix and flyer for the party after the jump.

Zombie Disco Squad (ft. Spoek Mathambo) – We Should Bang Tonight (video teaser)

Forthcoming on Deadfish Audio, Zombie Disco Squad links up with one of the hardest working people we know – Spoek Mathambo – for a major track. We’re looking forward to this release.

“It was only right, after being in the same circles as one Mr. Mathambo/Mokgata….we finally hooked it up and made this Chicago-esq track. Remixes come from Solo and Mowgli, both adding a more tech, ratatatat sound to the original. Hope you like!”
