April 6-8, only one place to be and that is the massive looking Sound Pellegrino Festival at Social Club and L’Enfer in Paris.

“For years I have been thinking about starting a label. Initially it was a joke amongst friends, a thought about being a “taste maker”, a response to the frustration that sometimes we, as producers, experience when we finish a new song and would like to put it out there as soon as possible, but sometimes label politics induce long delays, or even worse, cancellations. I was lucky enough to start releasing on great labels pretty quickly and this opened doors, introduced me to lots of people, amazing producers, and taught me how this game must be played. With this in mind I am now starting this new adventure, called Congaloid. What I want to do is expose new artists, try to get them visibility and show to my fellow djs and fans their music. There are so many labels around that sometimes we miss great songs and ideas simply because they get lost in the big internet mess. It gives me great pleasure when I find some new producers out there and play their songs before anyone else, and I hope that Congaloid will give the same feeling to every listener and every avid dj that wants the freshest stuff. Listening to all the promos that already arrive daily in my e-mail makes me feel like back in the “record shops days”, when I used to queue to get the latest vinyl, even better if it had a white label on, so I could play it to people for first and (just sometimes) lie about the title or the producer… I am very happy with the music we have so far and will be released in the coming months, and I am also excited to hear comments, feedbacks, suggestions from anyone who will care to do so…

Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team celebrates three years of spaced out genre bending with two club friendly instruments of destruction as one of the most hilarious, inventive and constantly unmimicable labels in the game.

First thing’s first, “Bassface” takes us back to the days of Miami and Atlanta Bass music, made for the rollerskating rink, but with an added macabre 808 trap feel and venomous digi-medieval undertones.

However, the one that’s really going to get everyone’s attention seems to be “Pretty Pretty Good” – not only is it a shimmering burst of woodblock percussion, panting and g-funk laser blasts in the background, but it’s an obvious nod to the infamous HBO cult sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm, which is maybe the best unmined use of dance music source material up unto this point.

Also, Teki and Orgasmic have their own online store now, and while there’s no vinyl there, there are plenty of stylish pieces for the tech-house Karl Lagerfeld in you.

Panteros666 provides a great remix of London band Real Fur’s debut single ‘Animal’, straying from the hardstyle roots on his Sound Pellegrino debut EP and instead using pitched vocal samples like a chirping siren over the original vocals.

The track is due for release on June 6th on Safari Funk Records.

I once saw Surkin in an arcade in Japan. I’d been living there for a few months and was in an arcade in Shinsekai (the only neighborhood where you can still run into a bloodied mob member and transexual dance troupe on the same block) losing a game of Tekken 6 against some teenager who was playing as a gigantic panda. Surkin walked by past my console just as the panda kicked my character in the face, and I was temporarily stunned to see the prodigious producer doing who-knows-what in a grimy arcade far from France.

But hearing High Powered Boys’ (Surkin + Bobmo) first offering on Sound Pellegrino, Surkin’s presence in Japan makes a bit more sense – “Udon” feels like a tribute to the crowded arcades and crammed walkways of Shinsaibashi at night, packed full of turbulent noise and voices layered on percussion layered on more voices.

Julio Bashmore’s reworking is more like walking the streets of Shinjuku right at the moment at 5am when exhausted ravers are stumbling home on the train at the same time that the businessmen are going to work. Bashmore centers the beat around a sole saxaphone solo coming out of the shadows, Gerry Rafferty “Baker Street” style.

Meanwhile, “Work” and it’s accompanying Tom Trago remix are both bouncy firestarters that make devastatingly effective use of an infectious beat and crooning “oh girl” sample.

As a sad counterpoint to this amazing release, inspirational and trendsetting former Sound Pellegrino mother label Institubes has announced that it will be closing shop.

You can read more about the end of Institubes from their post here, which cites “a post-apocalyptic, terminally pauperized landscape, complete with irradiated A&R zombies and mutated eyeless bloggers” as well as a defective “post-Napster economy” as some of the reasons they’re calling it quits. Sound Pellegrino will now be operating as an independent entity, and Bobmo, Para One and Surkin just announced the birth of their new label called MARBLE, home to their (many) upcoming singles, including a new EP coming from Das Glow.
