Momma’s Boy

SNP005-hi-res

The French maestro Teki Latex just sent us a track from the upcoming release on his fine imprint Sound Pellegrino. You’ve all heard of Mikix The Cat which is the more in your face alter ego of Momma’s Boy AKA Mike Gnacadja. Now we got the flip side track “Give It Up” from his new EP which is one fine piece of music and it will no doubt get tons of plays. Here’s the lodown courtesy of Teki:

“…While unleashing his hard bass-driven rave bursts as Mikix for Luca’s label Trouble & Bass, Mike kept his lighter, more playful side away from the public ear, but not from the Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team’s hard drives. Influenced by the sparse sounds of the house music of Now, as well as a rightful return to the African rythms of his Beninese roots, channelled by his move from Paris to Berlin, a new face of Mike Gnacadja was born, we decided to name it Momma’s Boy (after the restaurant in Curb Your Enthusiasm).

Orgasmic and I had an argument about whether “Give It Up” should be the A-side or not, but things like that don’t really matter anymore with digital releases, do they? Anyway I believe “Give It Up” is the hit of the EP. Banging yet subtle, evil yet pointing towards the direction of “a fun jam”, this track is like a sprinkle of hagelslag on an already delicious piece of toast in the middle of a well-furnished musical Dutch breakfast.

What Is Guru

I hope no one missed out on that the new Renaissance Man EP “What Is Guru/Aloha” is out on Sound Pellegrino (if you been living under a rock, go get it here).

Here is what Teki wrote in the promotext for the showcase night in Paris this Friday with Renaissance Man, Laidback Luke and Teki Latex:

“It doesn’t take an expert to notice that, in the last few months, a new musical family has built itself on the ruins of loud big beat-like fidget and overly distorted washing machine-electro.
Inspired by the “less is more” ethics of minimal techno as much as the DIY/”sample-anything-as-long-as-it’s-got-attitude” philosophy of hip-hop, this new unnamed form of groovy and refreshing house music is rising and Sound Pellegrino is proud to be at the forefront of such an exciting phenomenon.

In the wake of their acclaimed Dubsided hit EP “Spraycan”, with Kitsune and Deadfish releases already buzzing and the whole dance music world wanting a piece of them in 2009, Finnish duo Renaissance Man deliver a massive EP for Sound Pellegrino which promises to catch the ear of an insanely wide spectrum of audiences, confirming their status of most exciting new house act of the year.

It is quite hard to resist the catchiness of the tongue-in-cheek vocal sample in “What Is Guru”, and even your mother will soon ask you to burn her a CD of “that Krishna song” you play all the time. But once the novelty’s gone, the thing that makes “What Is Guru” an ultimate club hit is the impeccable and original production, serving a groove reminiscent of Akufen’s early radio-chopping work. It’s so good that Riva Starr, a fan of the early demo version of the original, and one of artists who helped define this new sound we keep writing about, made us the honor to provide an infectious percussive remix which will prove itself more than useful for DJs who aren’t feeling the whole vocal/spiritual breakdown thing. “Aloha” and its accompanying dub are equally as lethal on dancefloors, perpetuating the tradition of tribal, menacing post-Baltimore Sound Pellegrino riddims installed by Zombie Disco Squad’s “Eurovision”.

We said we weren’t gonna give it a name, but if “sparse house music with conceptual samples” is an army, then Renaissance Man are the most devoted soldiers who become generals in the middle of the movie.

San Diego producer Harvard Bass provides us with the next release on Sound Pellegrino (Tekis and Orgasmics label which looks to be a major player in 2009), his “Caked/81″ EP will be out on May 18th and comes backed with this remix from one of our favorites at the moment. Finnish duo Renaissance Man gives us yet another one of their stunning remixes with their take on flip side track “81″, continuing with their own jacking style and you just have to love that bouncy Eastern European style accordion. Today we celebrate Nathaniel Selfs birthday!! He is throwing a b-day bash in London tonight with a solid lineup! Congratulation homie! Sorry, I can’t be there today.

Zombie Disco Squad
and Solo did this banging mix to celebrate their new release on Dirty Bird. The EP is called “Congo Fire” and it came out yesterday on Beatport.

ZDS have also done some exclusive blends to encourage people to join their mailing list – basically you send a email to zdsmailinglist@gmail.com and get a auto reply with two blends/bootlegs. Members of their Facebook group are going to get an amazing exclusive very soon as well.

Solo is about to drop a new EP on Deadfish (Mowgli’s imprint) witch features remixes from Riva Starr & Nat Self – Solo has also done a remix of one of the ZDS tracks on their new EP on Institubes sister label Sound Pelegrino.

You should also check out the new ZDS EP on Made To Play (they will be releasing exclusively on Made To Play for the rest of the year and hold a residency at the M2P night at Panorama Bar in Berlin).

Enough already, now go send Nat some b-day love and listen to the mix.

London duo Zombie Disco Squad are one of the acts you should be looking out for in 2009 since they’ll surely be doing it big with a slew of releases on a few choice labels. The single “Esperanto/Eurovision” is the first release on the newly founded Sound Pellegrino imprint and it’s a jacking techhousey baile funk/b-more bomb.

Orgasmic/Teki mix

Mr Fairtilizer with a tip on a new mix from Teki Latex and DJ Orgasmic to promote fresh new label Sound Pellegrino. The first release is coming from our favorite London blokes – Zombie Disco Squad. Here’s some info on the label from Teki:

“Sound Pellegrino’s sonic identity is a paradox. When I play the current house and techno music that I like to my French “banging electro” friends they think it’s minimal. When I play it to minimal DJs they think it bangs too hard. We love hard stuff when it’s creative and groovy, and we love minimalist music when it’s not boring nore serious. The first two Sound Pellegrino releases totally embody that state of mind.”

And some info on that first release which looks to be straight fire:

“Zombie Disco Squad are two London blokes with a passion for forest grooves and tribal drums as well as profound respect for pure house music and classy techno. In-between releases for two of the most acclaimed electronic music labels of today (Claude Von Stroke’s Dirtybird and Jesse Rose’s Made To Play) they made us the honor to inaugurate Sound Pellegrino with the release of their single “Esperanto/Eurovision”. The two Baile House bangers merge South American accordions with mini B-more rythms made playable at Panorama Bar. With Mowgli providing an eerie horror score take on “Eurovision” and Solo remixing “Esperanto” into a deep techno sure shot, we could easily tell you this release represents House music’s cultural diversity at its best–but frankly, who cares about the whole “world music” shtick anyway? These four bangers will rock any club and it’s all that matters.”

Forthcoming release is coming from Argentina’s French expat Douster with “Freak Mode/For Weirdos Only”, re-inventing jacking house into a half intimate-half frenetic wonky banjo ride.
