DJ Wool – All Vinyl Breaks Mix

Long ago, in a time before CDJ’s, DJ Controllers, Final Scratch and Serato, DJ Wool (half of The Glass and beatmaker for our recent Spoek collaboration) put together a bedroom apartment mix on a stupidly hot summer day in 2002, recorded from vinyl, using an MPC1000 for samples and a Digitech fx unit onto an Adat.

The tracks are a mixed bag of music that at the time were called “new school breaks” (though now, using the term ‘new school’ for something released in 2002 feels a bit strange) andd early 90′s hardcore/pre drumnbass.

Loaded with white label cuts, you can hear some DJ Phantasy, R&S Records, Ills, 2 Bad Mice, DJ ICEE, Squarepusher, Marine Parade, Krafty Kuts, Stanton Warriors, as well as lots of forgotten, misplaced or now-warped-beyond-recognition records. In addition, NYC Early Graffiti Writer Phase provides an intro that makes you feel like right at home in another era of dance music. Grab it below!

aUtOdiDakT & John Disco feat. Spoek Mathambo – Fake Fred Perry

HA! First of all, the name of this song already predisposes me towards liking it.

But on top of that, Spoek loosens up a tad from the cult leader death threat vibes of his previous Discobelle Records release and raps fluently about hot dogs with mustards and ketchup, house parties and genetalia. He also just got signed to Sub Pop by the way! ‘Bout time all that hustling payed off.

The last time I remember hearing from aUtOdiDakT was when Proxy turned “Shit Yr Rack” into a gutting, stretched out grinding vortex of brown note inducing sound. Here, aUtOdiDakT employs some skeletal bass that’s likely to re-align your spine if you’ve got back problems and mess it up if you don’t. It’s heavy, but doesn’t overpower the rest of the song – metaphorically, it’s the gasoline and purple sizzurp that’s fueling Spoek’s rants.

Definitely one that will get some positive vibes if rinsed at a big messy party of any type.

Bonus: You know Sharkslayer got their mitts on this too.

Spoek & Wool – Red Is For Danger

We were lucky enough to get to put out an EP from Johannesburg’s Nthato Mokgata, AKA Spoek Mathambo, who’s been labelled everything from “sex-obsessed South African Spank Rock” to “subversive leader of some new front of political dance music”.

Spoek’s music is full of intensely well worded critiques of power and corruption, but also enjoyable as hallucination inducing odes to buying guns on the internet. On Discobelle Records released “Kult Leader” EP, “Red For Danger” strikes the balance between marching down the streets with a black bandanna and molotov cocktail and doing the two step on top of someone’s kitchen table at a house party where David Koresh spiked the punch.

DJ Wool, who’s a founding member of Indie Dance duo “The Glass”, weaves a jacking beat of crunchy distortion around Spoek’s words that quite possibly could have subliminal messages stuffed into its seams.

Peterpan

Top Billin gives us the second remix EP from the massive Sekta & Spoek release “Jabajaws/Peterpan”, this time it’s b-side “Peter Pan” that gets the remix treatment from an A-list of up and coming producers such as Dubbel Dutch, Doc Daneeka, Darling Farah and Sharkslayer. We have this funked up bassfilled hypnotic techno treatment from Bristol producer Julio Bashmore which will probably make you forget all about eggs or Easter candy and instead make you head straight down to the club.

Schlachthofbronx (ft. Spoek & Gnucci Banana) – Ayoba (Top Billin Remix)

We posted the original a while back but now it’s finally released on Man Recordings and they got tons of top notch producers (Daniel Haaksman, Beataucue, Ku Bo, Phon.o, DJ Beware & Motorpitch) to do remixes of the track. We got the Top Billin wobblin remix, free download from Soundcloud.

Camel

Camel AKA Andrea Maver is based out of Bologna, Italy and has started 2010 with a bang. His “Zig Zag EP” was just released by Deadfish Audio and it’s three tracks of pure goodness of deep sounds and driving house vibes all combined with funky, tropical rhythms. His next releases include a new EP, a remix of that hard hitting Sekta & Spoek track “Jabajaws” + remixes of Mowgli and Matt Walsh so be sure to keep your ears peeled for those. This is his latest mix and also a brand new exclusive track for you all to enjoy.

Put Your Hands On Me

Tomorrow night sees the third edition of Smuts, the club night we run together with the WooBanger boys at Babel here in Malmö. Last time we had Bok Bok and Spoek who both did a mighty fine job of trying to turn the house upside down, wednesday sees Italian gone Londoner Solo try to outdo them with his midget house sound. This remix of dynamic Milan duo Crookers track “Put Your Hands On Me” (released on Southern Fried Records a while ago) is his first offical one and for this occasion he decided to just use the accapella, transforming the track into a pure banger which has been a highlight in our sets lately.

Solo has been hard at work in the studio lately not just producing his own tracks or remixes but also producing beats. In the near future, we can expect an EP for Sound Pellegrino + a remix for Wiley and also remixes for some bigger names across the pond.

H.I.V.I.P

Today was a day of what felt like a downpour of biblical proportions here in the southern Sweden, it’s a good thing that we had this new mix of UK funky, kwaito, tech/house, zulu house awesomeness from South African rap all star turned married man in Sweden Spoek waiting for us when we got home.

“person 1: Spoek told the boss about you playing house music.
person 2: What?! I knew that ass-kissin uncle tom would say something.
person 1: He’s not an uncle tom.
person 2: Yeah, whatever.”

Salem x Gucci Mane

Still reeling from last nights Smuts party with Bok Bok and Spoek, albeit the club wasn’t packed both Bok Bok and Spoek gave us a pounding with killer sets of bass induced madness and kwaito fun.

Anyway, we got something completely different than that with these two terrifyingly intriguing remixes by Salem of the Gucci Mane tracks “Bird Flu” and “Round One”.
