Big up to our friends in London crew The Heatwave that celebrates their 10 year anniversary!
London crew The Heatwave with a wicked mix for you to blast this summer.
“If you thought only men could get X-rated and chat lyrics on the mic, think again. Loads of the biggest hits in the Caribbean are made by women for women. You won’t hear a single male voice on this mix…it features exclusively female MCs.
The Heatwave celebrate the amazing skill, power and creativity of women at the centre of dancehall culture. Non-stop party vibes and positivity from Lady Saw, Sister Nancy, Ms Dynamite, Rihanna and untold more female Caribbean artists spitting the wickedest lyrics.”
London dancehall crew and longtime Discobelle comrades The Heatwave presents all you runners out there with a very special treat, “The Ultimate Running Mix”.
“We specially picked tunes that are great for working out to. Put in your headphones, turn up the volume and get motivated. Whether you’re in the gym, on your bike or even just having a brisk walk. Listen to this twice a week and we guarantee you’ll run faster than Usain Bolt within six months.”
BONUS: A RDX refix made on a boat in Croatia during their Hot Wuk gig at Outlook Festival this summer, featuring current dancehall smash “Jump” by RDX, summer shots from Gappy Ranks and Cham & O, Tony Matterhorn’s crossover hit “Dutty Wine”, Natasja’s raving classic “Calabria” and soca favourite “Roll It Gal” by Alison Hinds.
To celebrate 50 years of Jamaican independence today (6 August 2012), London crew The Heatwave puts together a massive mix where their Usain Bolt quick dj style is applied to half a century’s worth of classic tracks for “Five Million Rewinds”. The Heatwave will take you on a journey from reggae-sampling rave anthems to blues dance smashes to homegrown UK dancehall hits.
“Jack it up selector! The Heatwave cram the biggest UK hits to come out of Jamaica into one crazy mix: 50 years + 83 tunes x 73 minutes = approximately five million rewinds. These songs have been pulled up, wheeled, rewound and replayed literally MILLIONS of times – in bedrooms, house parties, blues dances, nightclubs and raves throughout the UK.”
Tracklist after the jump.
This track refuses to go away, our friends in London crew The Heatwave boosts the excellent shuffling Adele & Jamie XX version of “Rolling In The Deep” with a little help from Cecile, Mr Lexx and Timberlee. Big!
The Heatwave’s dancehall filled mixes have helped me do things I never thought possible – staying up 59 consecutive hours working on a ten foot tall tornado replica for a Canadian museum while solely listening to Heatwave mixes, for example.
Maybe it’s because they excel at seamlessly blending dancehall refixes of pop staples, or maybe it has something to do with their effortless bridging of Jamacian produced vibes with a UK bashment tinged edge.
Whatever it is that’s responsible for the magic they’ve been weaving in their mixes, it comes out in full force here – brimming with exclusives from Vybz Kartel, a new Sticky & Ms. Dynamite collaboration, and a multitude of tropical riddims to give spring the final needed push to just become summer already.
Tracklisting after the jump, tons of vibes:
