For the avid reader of Discobelle, the name DJ Wool should be associated with superb dj sets (he’s a former DMC champion) and seriosuly bumping tracks on labels such as Top Billin, Plant Music, Discobelle Records etc. along with being a member of popular indie/dance duo The Glass. He’s also a maestro in the mixing/production room having worked with the likes of REM, Dolores O’Riordan (The Cranberries), Spoek Mathambo, Todd Terry, Far East Movement, Herbert Gronemeyer, Jagz Kooner, Howie B, Andy Rourke (The Smiths), Tittsworth and many more.
After spending time in New York and Berlin, Dublin born DJ Wool has relocated to Northern California where he’s working as an audio engineer and has also been hard at work in his studio with new album “A Life In Breaks” which will be released on October 21st via NYC label Dither Down.
This absolutely astounding and warm, organic sounding mix for us sees him exploring breaks, minimal and ambient AKA “Ambi-Rock” and it’s inspired by what made him start his music career back in the 90’s.
Dim Mak Records should be considered one of the big independent labels and they recently released WatchTheDuck’s “The Trojan Horse EP” (which was executively produced by Pharrell, T.I., and Steve Aoki).
The lead single “Making Luv to the Beat” which features the vocal offerings of T.I. and DJ E-Feezy has been remixed by young and hyped up Finnish producer M E R C E into an excellent and soulful house tune that’s driven forward with the help of a desolate piano and handclaps.
M E R C E is considered to be one of the most promising new talents in bass music. His unique sound, forged during long and cold Nordic winters, fuses elements of cinematic trap, UK bass, and soul. M E R C E has already received support from among others Top Billin’ and DJ Complexion. His new EP “Walls” will drop in January 2016.
Milan based producer Nobel has been slaying the European club scene and been on the radar here at Discobelle for a couple of years now with releases on esteemed labels such as No Brainer, Top Billin, Doner Music, Meanbucket, Cocobass and Lucky Beard. We’re super excited that he wanted to contribute to our mixtape series.
This raging mix featuring a ton of Nobel original productions starts off with a bubbly bass and soon gives way for all out vibes of futuristic club sounds with swirling, fluorescent synths, dark & grimey bass sounds and chopped up vocals.
After a super long hiatus, Discobelle Records is back with a brand new string of releases to keep you up in 2014. Arriving this month, the “High Steppin’ EP” from Austrian house-maestro, Dizzy Womack, is a slick little 4-tracker featuring three original cuts from Womack and remix duties from Look Like.
As the follow up release to his 2013 EP, “Black Ice”, on Top Billin’, we find Dizzy in fine form with opening cut, “French Sin.” A hypnotic groover with dancing, French-spoken-word vox peppered thru-out. Contrary to its name, “High Steppin'” gets deep, down and dirty with a booty-chakra rumbling bass and pitched down vocals. “She Goes Back” is the deepest of the bunch with stuttering vox and filtered pads, the accompanying remix from Look Like version amps up the more “garage-y” elements which lends the tune a more menacing vibe.
Releasedate is today January 31st, thanks for starting you new year out right with Dizzy Womack and Discobelle Records!
