Damn Maya!

This Wednesday November 9th sees the launch of The Producers, a collaboration between Red Bull Studios and Vice which explores the journey of a producer in the recording studio, stay tuned for highlights from episode one featuring dubstep pioneer Benga and vocalist Youngman.

One of my favorite sites over the past three years has undoubtedly been the always great, often graphically offensive Molasuperpoco blog.

But in addition to churning out continually great vibes, Jared of MSP is also a resident DJ at Razz in Barcelona where he goes by the name “pffff”. I think is meant to sound like when you spit something out while in mid sip.

This mix he curated for Vice Spain is an anthology of “not-yet-recognized-as-classic-80′s-disco-rock” music, mostly lifted from soundtracks to films like 1984, Lady Beware, Girls Just Want To Have Fun, Mad Max 3, Cat’s Eye, Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Critters, and Dream to Believe. Also noteable is the fact that he’s “100% not interested in presenting this as irony”, an important thing to note these days. Give it a listen below, it’s excellent.

VICE has selected 6 filmmakers from Denmark and Sweden for a chance for a paid internship at their VBS headquarters in NYC.

Each filmmaker will complete 6 “Creative Challenges” issued by professionals in different fields of the arts. These are videos with a specific theme or context.

This next challenge is with Frej Larsson from Slagsmålsklubben and Maskinen. Maskinen got a new mixtape banger coming out featuring Promoe and the six filmmakers are gonna make the video. The song is about things that end. So they have to make something end and in a big way!

Since the success with my MGMT mix, Vice decided that they are going to continue to ask DJs to remix tracks from a certain artist. The second mix is with Bloc Party mixed by our friends in Top Billin. This is what Nenis from Top Billin had to say about the mix:

“We took on making a mix with that punk attitude, keeping the dynamics there so that it wouldn’t be too smooth operator mix, but have that rock feel in it. The tracks in the mix are all related in Bloc Party, influences and tracks that they’ve covered (like Prince) and of course kool tunes that are named block party. Hopefully you’ll dig it.”

The first ever Vice party in Malmö will take place this saturday at Amore. Live acts + some spectacular dj’s including London dj/producer Martelo who has spent the better part of 2008 as a tour dj for Santogold. To promote the shindig we got the brand spanking new remix done by Martelo of the Santogold track “Creator”, where he throws down some extra bass and some funky fast as hell rhytms to transform the original into a club stormer.
