Surprise Hotel

Fool’s Gold is a Los Angeles collective that weaves together western pop aesthetics with African rhythms and melodies. Not too long after their communal beginnings, Fool’s Gold developed into a full-time band and their music has been described as: made for hot nights in a sweltering desert. Their new single “Surprise Hotel” will be released on limited 12″ in early November, followed by an album in January. This is the Mad Decent AKA Toadally Krossed Out remix which with the help of some croaking turns it into a surefire club hit.

BONUS: The remix from Micachu & The Shapes + the remix of “Nadine” made by Weird Tapes.

This New Technology

Midnight Juggernauts are working on releasing the followup (due early 2010) to their debut album “Dystopia” and as a first taste we get their new single “This New Technology” (release date is October 9th, the single will come backed with remixes from Emperor Machine, Nile Delta and Weird Tapes) which is packed with dark driving rhythms contrasting the rest of the poppy synth laced track. Following the digital release of the single, a limited edition 7″ will be released by the wonderful Acéphale Records (home to Salem, Air France, Memory Tapes) which is available for pre-order here.

The release coincides with a national headline tour by Midnight Juggernauts across Australia, and appearances at the CMJ Music Festival in New York during October including a headline performance at the URB party.

Heartbeats

Grum has just released his latest single but the DJ promo has been out a while now and it’s been getting great responses from other dj’s. Grum is going to be big when his album comes out in 2010. So, start the journey by downloading these three remixes of the track. We got 100 copies to give away of the 320s so be fast and use the Yousendit link, the rest of you will have to make do with the 128 or you can buy the whole thing.

“Grum’s two favourite records of all time are Daft Punk’s “Discovery” and “Dare” by the Human League and the spirit of these classics is coursing through the veins of “Heartbeats”. Joyous, fun-filled and perfectly crafted for maximum impact on the dancefloor, this is the sound of the blogs heading to the pop charts.”

Surfin

The Memory Cassette “Call And Response” debut 7″ was recently released by the good people over at Acephale in collaboration with Sweden’s finest Sincerely Yours, limited to 500 copies (some copies could be available at select stores). This remix of the track “Surfin” from Weird Tapes did of himself is a delicate and heavenly piece of bleepy, summery pop music and it’s part of the “Calls & Responses EP” (includes new remixes of Memory Cassette by Friend, CFCF, Sail A Whale and Shadow Self).

All the remixes are to be given away at high quality for free through blogs and will be available as a single download through the We’re Tapes blog shortly.

Peter Bjorn & John – Nothing to Worry About (Jocko for Teddybears Remix)

I’m a big Teddybears fan so anything new from them will do until their new album is out and it doesn’t make it worse that it’s a remix of the Peter, Bjorn & John track “Nothing To Worry About”. It’s taken off Peter, Bjorn & John’s second single of “Living Thing”, “It Don’t Move Me”, the single also contains remixes from Miike Snow and Weird Tapes. The single will be released exclusively on Masterbeat.com for one week. Then the EP will be available at all other digital service providers starting July 21st.

Check out where you can catch Peter, Bjorn & John on their US tour with Depeche Mode after the jump.

Bicycle

Memory Cassette + Weird Tapes = Memory Tapes, the new project received quite the blog love yesterday when the first single “Bicycle” surfaced (it’ll be released on Loog this summer backed with a remix by The Horrors). An amazing and blissful mix of pitter patter drums, handclaps, cowbells and harmonic vocals – i’ll be bumping this on the beach in Italy next week. The debut album will be out on the excellent Acéphale label sometime this fall.

Last One Awake

The third release on Canadian label Acephale Records is a collaboration with the Swedes in Sincerely Yours (The Tough Alliance, Air France) to co-release Memory Cassette/Weird Tapes’ first record – “Call & Response”. It’s a four track EP on 7″ white vinyl and as always it’s limited to 500 copies (available as presale). To promote the release the labels asked a few of their favourite people to do some remixes, all of which will be released through blogs.

Here’s the first of these remixes courtesy of Vancouver turned Londoner Friend and he gives us a lovely summer tune.
